Topic: Marcus King - El Dorado

This is Marcus King's first solo effort, replacing his original band with Dan Auerbach (playing, producing) and some highly respected Nashville musicians.  Although there's some blues flavoring, there's some country and rock sprinkled in.  I first got MKB's first EP effort in 2014 and two years later their self-named first effort with Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes.  Thought I started a thread then, but it's disappeared here.  I might have deleted it.
I started another thread here titled Young Guns that included him.  Probably he's near the top of my favorite musicians.  One of those who's an old soul who could literally play a phone book and it'd still be interesting.  El Dorado underscores his eclectic talent.  Gone is the long ABB jam sound and presently more music that interests him.  This is a very good album that I highly recommend.
Got shot up yesterday for my "good knee" and the cortizone just allowed a couple hours sleep.  Thought I'd check out this album and got it.  Glad I did.

Re: Marcus King - El Dorado

I danced with my wife to "Love Song" tonight Jane.  Thought you'd like that.
This is an album that just gets better with each listen.  The songs at the beginning are
OK, but I don't think things really start kicking in till the 6th song, "Beautiful Stranger".  From there it just rolls along quite nicely, culminating in what I feel is the best song on the album, " Turn It Up".  This song is the song SRV and Jimmy would've been proud of on their Brothers album.  I'm feeling Al Green on this one.  How can anyone not get up and dance to this.
"Whiskey River" is an homage to Mr. Willie Nelson and another bouncy drinking song.

That is a great song...Love Song. I've never lived in a love song before  ♥
I think I will declare The Well to be song of the year and this album of the year, for me. I'm looking forward to releases from some of my faves but its going to take a lot to top it
I like all the songs though and Turn it Up and Say You Will but The Well is swell. lol idk not quite awake right now...I was thinking about it yesterday.

"Say You Will" along with "The Well" are probably the most Black Keys influenced than any other songs on the album.  This album will be hard to top this year like you said.

Found this interesting video of Marcus King solo acoustic versions of 4 songs off El Dorado.
