YES, I was jumping up and down!! Tell Helen if she wants to go to the parade on Friday, she can stay at my house!
Villanova doesn't win the title often, but the two times they have its been EPIC & AWESOME!!
Being a HUGE sports fan, I never really got into the superstious stuff, BUT this tournament was different and it was unavoidable trying to bat down all the emotions coming at me from every angle. I knew VILLANOVA WAS WINNING IT ALL!
Because: 3 important people very connected to Villanova passed away since last season, most importantly my dad, who always use to call me to discuss Villanova basketball. I miss him so much! I went to my parents best friend's funeral this past
Saturday, before the Oklahoma game. She was 92 years old, and had 5 children, 14 grand-children and 14 great- grandchildren. Her husband had graduated 'Nova in '49, her oldest son in '72 and many other family members were 'Nova grads, it was such a Villanova vibe! Her great-granddaughter Madeline attended the funeral in her Villanova Wildcat cheer leading outfit. My daughter had that same outfit when she was a toddler. The cemetery was close to the Villanova campus, it wasn't the most direct path back to where we were going to attend a luncheon, but I went out of my way to drive by campus and reflect in front of the church. The 3rd person who passed was only 24 years-old and I didn't really know her well, but she graduated last May with my niece from Princeton and she was so in love with her boyfriend, Keith Jones, who was a former basketball manager at Nova and is a news reporter on our local NBC. Keith was down in Houston covering the Wildcats and its been an incredibly emotional ride. I attended a wedding of another Nova basketball manager when I first met this couple. And just like events leading up to the 1985 win, this year is full of the next generation in my family having wedding showers and getting married. I was at a wedding shower on the afternoon of the EPIC win over Kansas!! My son Vince said if we got by Kansas, we were winning it all!!
Lastly I never did these 2 things before. I filled out my bracket and picked a different team to win. I went for Michigan State in honor of my father-in-law who loved Italians a little bit extra and really respected Tom Izzo. I was pressed for time, I usually do more than one bracket but I guess Andy Gump wanted a Villanova win!!
Before the tourney started, a t-shirt fell off my shelf in my messy closet. It was a navy blue Villanova Wildcat t-shirt I bought in the book store years ago and totally forgot about, I had never worn it yet. I wore that same t-shirt and same undergarment for every playoff game. It did not fail me!
AFTER 31 YEARS, IT SIMPLY WAS MEANT TO BE!!
Jim Cramer really summed it up well here.
