Shows how much I know about basketball this was the final four. No championship just the worst defeat ever suffered by a team in the final four.

Orange went down easily too.
Wife's a Nova fan and we have another here too, though I haven't seen her post in a while. Final looks like the two best for sure.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Got a sneaky feeling the Heels are gonna pull out an easy win Monday night.

Re: NCAA Basketball

This UNC team is really big, some of the players look like NBA players.  UNC is favored to win and historically it seems we have a real hard time getting pass them, along with the entire sports world always wanting them to win.  Maybe its because I am a Nova fan, but it just feels like the refs favor UNC.

This bad call cost us this game.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Hey Rick,

Too nervous to chat. big_smile Wasn't sure we could get past Kansas and now we have arrived at the final.  Our kids bought us t-shirts for our wedding anniversary, "Party Like Its 1985".  We watched that final four at our wedding reception and missed the final while flying to our honeymoon. Its funny how some things are feeling so similar to 1985...

On Easter day, my son went down his grandma's basement and there was an old pile of newspapers.  On top was a 1983 Philadelphia Daily News with the headline, "Villanova Upsets No.1 N. Carolina" "Villanova Steps on No.1 Heels 56-53"

I'm happy to hear your wife is a fan. Does she have a crush on Jay? wink My daughter sent me a link to a blog where people critique Jay's suits.  His tailor says Jay is a little color-blind. Jay had a lot of stripes going on for one game, suit, shirt and flowery tie...he was told to retire that outfit, bad luck! We lost that game.  Jay is truly a class act though and to my knowledge runs a really clean program.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Jim, no wories, it happens.  I had no comment on Syracuse, knowing there was no way there was going to be a third time charm.  North Carolina had Syracuse's number this year.  It was kind of nice to have the Orange men's and women's teams reach the final four.  Women fairing better, but I expect UConn to prevail in the final.

As far as the men's final tonight, I am, of course (still have the old Big East respect at heart), pulling for, and expect Villanova to win.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Miss You Rocket, I still LOVE YOU ROCKET!! It seems as if Nova is playing with something to prove.  First, they had to get past the choke of advancing in the tourney. Even Charles Barkely, who claims to be best buddies with Jay and has the Philly connection, is going to the extreme to look professional.  Going in to the 2nd half of the Kansas game, Barkley was negative on Nova...Kansas will make a comeback.  Charles, if we win, I hope Jay doesn't give you a good spot on the parade route. big_smile On another note, the Barkley trio commercials are really funny!!

Re: NCAA Basketball

YES, I was jumping up and down!! Tell Helen if she wants to go to the parade on Friday, she can stay at my house!

Villanova doesn't win the title often, but the two times they have its been EPIC & AWESOME!!

Being a HUGE sports fan, I never really got into the superstious stuff, BUT this tournament was different and it was unavoidable trying to bat down all the emotions coming at me from every angle.  I knew VILLANOVA WAS WINNING IT ALL!

Because: 3 important people very connected to Villanova passed away since last season, most importantly my dad, who always use to call me to discuss Villanova basketball.  I miss him so much!  I went to my parents best friend's funeral this past
Saturday, before the Oklahoma game.  She was 92 years old, and had 5 children, 14 grand-children and 14 great- grandchildren. Her husband had graduated 'Nova in '49, her oldest son in '72 and many other family members were 'Nova grads, it was such a Villanova vibe! Her great-granddaughter Madeline attended the funeral in her Villanova Wildcat cheer leading outfit. My daughter had that same outfit when she was a toddler. The cemetery was close to the Villanova campus, it wasn't the most direct path back to where we were going to attend a luncheon, but I went out of my way to drive by campus and reflect in front of the church. The 3rd person who passed was only 24 years-old and I didn't really know her well, but she graduated last May with my niece from Princeton and she was so in love with her boyfriend, Keith Jones, who was a former basketball manager at Nova and is a news reporter on our local NBC. Keith was down in Houston covering the Wildcats and its been an incredibly emotional ride.  I attended a wedding of another Nova basketball manager when I first met this couple.  And just like events leading up to the 1985 win, this year is full of the next generation in my family having wedding showers and getting married. I was at a wedding shower on the afternoon of the EPIC win over Kansas!! My son Vince said if we got by Kansas, we were winning it all!!

Lastly I never did these 2 things before. I filled out my bracket and picked a different team to win. I went for Michigan State in honor of my father-in-law who loved Italians a little bit extra and really respected Tom Izzo. I was pressed for time, I usually do more than one bracket but I guess Andy Gump wanted a Villanova win!!

Before the tourney started, a t-shirt fell off my shelf in my messy closet.  It was a navy blue Villanova Wildcat t-shirt I bought in the book store years ago and totally forgot about, I had never worn it yet. I wore that same t-shirt and same undergarment for every playoff game.  It did not fail me! big_smile

AFTER 31 YEARS, IT SIMPLY WAS MEANT TO BE!! wink

Jim Cramer really summed it up well here.

Congratulations to Syracuse University basketball coach (for 40 years!!!!) Jim Boeheim on his 1,000th win (unofficial or not), all at Syracuse, his Alma Mater even.

Hi Rocket,
40 years is significant, for sure. I miss you guys in the Big East. And being how Virginia just beat up on Louisville, your recent win over Virginia is even more significant.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Well, time to resurrect this topic. It’s been a while since my Aztecs had a real good team. The last time was with Kawhi Leonard who has gone on to the heights of success.
20-0, the last undefeated, a #1 in the NET ranking and a potential 1 seed. Maybe they can run the table this year if they stay healthy. A well balanced team with the normal lock down defense they’re known for, but now with some shooters, a great 5th year guard and a very good big at post.
Exciting times on Aztec Mesa, the bandwagon here is packed.
Any other NCAA Basketball fans out there?

Re: NCAA Basketball

I'm paying close attention to the Aztecs this year as they are the last unbeaten team so far this season.
An obvious superior team playing in a so so conference they look poised to be a number one seed and staying unbeaten heading into the tournament.  I noticed they beat a good Iowa team at either home or on a neutral court, but no one else.
My Hoosiers are the last college basketball team to finish undefeated.  Our closest win in '76 was an overtime blowout of Kentucky at Louisville's Freedom Hall.  I sat next to Coach Knight for the whole overtime which was one of the highlights of my life.  I raised my left hand in a fist pump at the buzzer and very nearly hit him in the jaw.  Thank God the man's a giant and there was no contact.
He gave me a hard stare, but smiled as he told me to get the heck outta there.  Course the word heck was not the word he used.

Like the '72 Dolphins, the '76 Indiana Hoosiers are brought up every year as the gold standards for aspiring elite teams.  Good luck Rick as I'll be pulling for your beloved Aztecs and hope they match my team in this bizarre season.

Wow! What an experience Curby.
They’re off to Vegas for a shot at the school record, 3-20 win teams. UNLV is rebuilding, but they all can be dangerous on the road.
Fingers crossed.

Re: NCAA Basketball

I see them up there at #4 now, you just don't want to get to #1 because too many losses have come at that spot earlier in the year. My Crimson Tide is looking better and better with each game, but they don't look like a team to make it to the big dance. We did pounce on Auburn couple of weeks back, and then they were also destroyed by Florida the very next game. I will be watching SDSU for sure

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

Re: NCAA Basketball

Finally, some notice from the national announcers on NBCSN.
It took a rout last night at UNM’s notorious Pit, up 17-0 on an undermanned team before the fans could sit with over 4 minutes gone and 2 timeouts. They stand until their team scores and were getting sore feet. Up nearly 40 in the early minutes of the 2nd half before ‘Dutch” emptied the bench and sent in the freshmen for some floor time to save further embarrassment to the home team. As one commentator said, when you’re up against a team like this, tip your hat and go home.
I heard the words “strong choice for a national championship” from one of the talking heads. They won’t get to #1 due to a fairly weak league, but notice has been served.
Time will tell, but this is a juggernaut right now. The student body’s getting fat reselling tickets at huge markups. 22-0 has them the hottest ticket in town.
Good luck to your teams.
