Re: Ranchero Mirage, CA Rocktober 23, 2019 Aqua Caliente

Here ya go.
The Show at the Agua Caliente casino is one of my favorite venues. Great acoustics in a modern hall that seats over 2K. The approach is through a sea of slot machines and gaming tables.
It was packed with obviously dedicated fans, a near sellout. I and the wife had 2nd row center seats on the right in front of Reese, front row is too close and obstructed by the row of monitors which I’d learned before. The venue has scalpers locked down pretty much, and good seats are easy to get online if you get in early. They sell via Etix, online sales are only available for pickup after 1 pm day of show by original purchaser, and they check id.

Joe took the stage and launched right off blazing, using the old intro of Tiger In Your Tank from the Three Kings Tour.
I was nonplussed to see an attractive blonde on bass!

Tiger In Your Tank
Evil Mama
Just 'Cos You Can Don't Mean You Should
Self-Inflicted Wounds
King Bee Shakedown
Stay With Me Baby* with Terry Reid!
This Train
Blues of Desperation
Sloe Gin
Well, Well
Nobody Loves Me But My Mother
Little Girl
The Ballad of John Henry
Encores:
Woke Up Dreaming
Mountain Time

The high energy of the band took right off and was matched by the crowd’s obviously knowledgeable and appreciative fans. Everyone in the band fed off the energy and  the joint was rocking right off the bat. Standing O’s after every piece. Big smile all night on Joe’s face.
After King Bee Shakedown, Joe took a break, chatted a bit saying how much he enjoyed playing, adding he’d hit a slot in the casino for $1200 that afternoon. He then took up a guitar he’d flashed a shot of on his ig acct. that afternoon as a teaser, saying it was for special duty at the show. A ‘60 Les Paul burst with a distinctive Stars and Stripes pick guard that had some fan sites guessing at what it meant. He announced the guitar had been on loan for 5 years from an old friend who lived in Palm Springs, and here he is. Terry Reid walked on stage to a big cheer. The legendary rocker was well known. What a treat! The band launched into his version of  Stay With Me Baby, and Tommy killed it. What a voice, and what a thrill for us and Joe too. He was beaming!
Next up was This Train and absolutely the best arrangement I’ve ever heard. Midway through, that blonde bass player, who'd impressed me so far and had swapped instruments for her lead bass, stepped up and swapped riffs with Joe toe to toe, both obviously having a ball. That lady can play! Joe introduced Allison Prestwood who’d filled in for Rhodes who was off receiving an award. Joe said she’d played at soundcheck in Bakersfield and seemed right off like she’d been a regular on tour. Impressive to this fan, she never missed a lick, even doing the special digeridoo effect on Blues of Desperation with the steel rod and wah pedal effect.
The rest of the night continued at high energy and delivered the goods.
Joe’s big band is firing on all cylinders and the fans down the road are in for a treat.

Great review, Rick.  What a blast!

That’s Terry Reid guest performer, and Alison Prestwood filling in on Bass in Michael Rhodes’ absence.

The band is Kickass, having a great time, get out and see them.

Joe posted today that his 7 year search is complete. The ‘60 Les Paul Standard with the stars and stripes pick guard and Bigsby is Tommy Bolin’s! Evidently it had been in Terry Reid’s hands. A priceless addition to the Bonaseum. He called it “The mission to Moab.”
