Steve Hillage - Dusseldorf 28-3-79 (2019 re-release)
A classic live album, re-mastered, from this oft overlooked Prog/Hippy guitar maestro. Put it on and straight away the room is awash with the smell of patchouli oil and damp Afghan coats…Lol. No, seriously, this is a powerhouse performance from Steve and his band, which at the time featured the recently passed Andy Anderson on drums, going tom for tom with the likes of Neil Peart and don’t mistake me, when this band gets wound up, they do power it as much as their Rush contemporaries, then hide it in swathes of Tangerine Dream like synths. Actually, the sound of this synths is about the only thing that dates this recording otherwise could be mistaken for a Steven Wilson set… Only niggle, the closing track on the 1st disc sounds like it’s been cut off; quite common on double albums of the day, but surely, after 48 minutes, there’s still enough run time on a CD to finish off the song - asuming it still exisits on the master-tapes…?

If I ever get the time, I'll see if it's like that on the Vinyl version.
I'm off to see the Steve Hillage Band in June, or what passes for his band these days as he's using what passes for Gong these days. Must dust off the Tea Cosy hat...
I'm really digging Metallica's "All Within My Hands" acoustic benefit concert. They didn't just sit and play their songs on acoustic guitars, they drastically rearranged them to fit the format. IMHO really well done.

For those of you who had been under the rock like I was. here's the latest craze - another boy band. I identify with a red haired one - he's got mooves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4NB73HTlxI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSFIwS2b-kg
Joyous Wolf - Quiet Heart
Good little rock band, not over the top like Greta Van Fleet.
I like their new release Place In Time.
I like it man, you come up with more good stuff to share ............. had to get my Popa fix for the day, but I do worry about his health

Really digging Metallica's "Helping Hands Acoustic" show. I wrote about it here, but a quick summary is that this is the way to rearrange metal tunes into an acoustic format. Really listenable and cool, not just "let's play metal songs with acoustic guitars instead."

Well, maybe not right now, but pretty soon I'll be enjoying a couple of CDs I picked up at a show last night:-
Roman Clarke - Scorcher (debut album)
Joey Landreth - Hindsight (latest album)
Fantastic show last night at The White House (Ashington); more to say later, but Curby would never forgive me if I didn't give him heads up about these releases....

technically it was earlier this evening but i wanted to post...
heard Five Finger Death Punch's cover of Blue on Black! It was good but I have such strong feelings about the radio bs blahblahblah! but it was good and good to hear
I posted a link. That is a great cover.
I’m waiting for my advance copy of KWS’ new release. I ordered a signed cd when he played here 2 weeks ago.
Roman Clarke - Scorcher (2019)
Debut full album from Roman; hard to pin a genre on this, but it is so smooth, if a little on the “pop” side. The sort of “lighter” John Mayer; somewhere between Jason Mraz and Pharrell Williams, but great summer’s evening stuff.
If you don’t know who Roman Clarke is, he’s a drummer, singer, keyboard-player, writer and producer from Winnipeg; Manitoba; a sort of younger, Canadian Wayne Proctor, but with better hair…. p)

Just learned awhile ago the passing of one of my favorite Bonabuds, Big Jeff Jones. His wry humor and so interesting posts were a special treat. We communicated years ago and he loved the silly playlists I burned for him. He really loved R&B and soul and I thought I'd post a modern R&B talent that I like very much. Tom Misch.....
