Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Eric Clapton - One More Car, One More Rider (live). Can't seem to find it online but it's easy on Spotify.

One of the best versions of ''Bell Bottom Blues''. What a great album!

Jeremiah Johnson - Straitjacket (2018)

One of RUF's more recent signings; label debut from Jeremiah Johnson, produced by fellow St. Louis-via-Texas Bluesman Mike Zito.
Where Mike has a more down-the-line Blues/Rock style, Jeremiah's style has more of a "Texas strut" to  it, very much in the style of Hamilton Loomis, especially with the backing sax of Frank Bauer. However, standing out in the backing is some superb Bass work from Tom Maloney, right through the album, as well as some slide guitar on 9th & Russell.  Benet Schaffer rounds the band off with some crisp drumming. Guesting on the last track, a prime slice of rock'n'roll , Mike Zito couldn't resist a bit of rhythm and lead. (Rock & Roll Music To The World)
As for the main man, more than capable voice and a slightly "old school" tone out of the Delaney guitar he favours; sounds in places not unlike Deguello-era Billy Gibbons; Bonneville Shuffle, the instrumental on the album chugs along but sounds like  the sort of TV theme The Ventures used to cover, fun, but not flash. Otherwise, a good mix of bouncers and moody blues. Worth digging into the back catalogue.
Johnson’s previous album, Blues Heart Attack (2016) was extremely well received as was it’s predecessor, the Devon Allman produced Grind. These were recorded as The Jeremiah Johnson Band, which stands as:-
Jeremiah Johnson - guitar and vocals
Benet Schaeffer - drums
Frank Bauer - tenor saxophone
Tony Anthonis - bass guitar
There are two older albums, recorded just after Johnson’s stay in Houston between 1999 & 2009 under the artist banner The Jeremiah Johnson Band with the Sliders, reflecting the strong Texas influence on his music. These albums are 9th & Russell and Brand Spank’n Blue.

Well I looked him up and was duly impressed.  Plucked him from my own back yard again Mike!

Looks like he's done 4 albums and they get bluesier.  I homed in on this song cause its got a Matchbox 20/Kenny Wayne groove to it.  No wonder Ruf signed him.

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Dug up an old-ish Mike Farris album, Salvation In Lights (2007); actually his 2nd solo effort. More Gospel than Blues, with a hint of Soul, well worth it just for the cover of Sam Cooke’s Change Is Gonna Come as well as Sister Rosetta Tharp’s Can’t No Grave Hold My Body Down.

Mix them with originals and worked traditionals and you can see that Mike is to this style Gospel what Ian Siegal is to it’s Blues equivalent.

Steve Hillage - Dusseldorf 28-3-79 (2019 re-release)

A classic live album, re-mastered, from this oft overlooked Prog/Hippy guitar maestro. Put it on and straight away the room is awash with the smell of patchouli oil and damp Afghan coats…Lol. No, seriously, this is a powerhouse performance from Steve and his band, which at the time featured the recently passed Andy Anderson on drums, going tom for tom with the likes of Neil Peart and don’t mistake me, when this band gets wound up, they do power it as much as their Rush contemporaries, then hide it in swathes of Tangerine Dream like synths. Actually, the sound of this synths is about the only thing that dates this recording otherwise could be mistaken for a Steven Wilson set… Only niggle, the closing track on the 1st disc sounds like it’s been cut off; quite common on double albums of the day, but surely, after 48 minutes, there’s still enough run time on a CD to finish off the song - asuming it still exisits on the master-tapes…?

If I ever get the time, I'll see if it's like that on the Vinyl version.

I'm off to see the Steve Hillage Band in June, or what passes for his band these days as he's using what passes for Gong these days. Must dust off the Tea Cosy hat...

I'm really digging Metallica's "All Within My Hands" acoustic benefit concert.  They didn't just sit and play their songs on acoustic guitars, they drastically rearranged them to fit the format.  IMHO really well done.

Good little rock band, not over the top like Greta Van Fleet.
I like their new release Place In Time.
