Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Team stars featured on the cover of S.I. latest edition. I think that’s the kiss of death.
They’ve been a Cactus League juggernaut this Spring, but we’ll see if they give us the usual .400 first month start. roll

Palpable excitement here Shreddy! It’s early, but there’s a vigor to the team that’s been lacking. Intent to win is on display with good pitching and aggressive at bats as well as solid defense.
We got a look at the much heralded rookie Paddack yesterday and he didn’t dissappoint. His live fastball in the mid 90’s is complemented by a nasty changeup he throws for K’s that sinks to the right. He’s a sharp dressed cowboy and several teammates sported stetsons and bolo ties yesterday in support. His 40 family members in the stands to witness his comeback from Tommy John surgery wore pins with Paddack’s Posse in a rope script.
Management will be going easy on our young arms as the season deepens. 5 innings and a low pitch count will be the deal, so a lot will be riding on the bullpen.
The big bats hired will hopefully warm up and win some games with power instead of the little ball being played now. Another to watch is our rookie ss Fernando Tatis who came up from AA to the bigs. Blazing speed and a great attitude, he plays way beyond his age of 20. He got 2 hits on opening day and is the 2nd youngest to do that since Bobby Bonds made his debut. Heady company!
The first series with the Dodgers will set the stage.

Holy moly. This is why Manny gets the big bucks. He hit an opposite field dinger too.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

That was an awesome play, it looked like he threw the ball as if he didnt have a chance of getting the runner.....its nice seeing some fresh blood having success....now my Giants are bad, nearly got no hit yesterday, my brother went to the game and called me, "I hope I see a no hitter today" sad

Well, they had it going, then the kids’ arms started to miss, and the sluggers bats are too.
Still a great start, and a lot of ball to be played.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Remember I mentioned our rookie Paddack? Today we got a glimpse. Facing Mariners’ Felix Hernandez on the opposing mound and the hottest set of bats in baseball at the moment, you’d think he’d have butterflies. Well, he did, A walk, a hit, a hit batter and he was in deep stuff in the 1st inning. He sucked it up and gained command, his mid 90’s fastball painting the corners with high movement mixed with a befuddling curve, walking off the mound in the 7th inning to a standing O from the fans and his teammates with that hit the only one as well as that walk, retiring the next 10 consecutive batters with 7 k’s mixed in.
After the game, Hernandez, a Cy Young winner and perennial all star had one word, “Impressive”. He made one mistake in the 1st himself, and hung one up in the eyes of Kinsler that promptly left the yard. That was it for scoring. Paddack’s glove has Relentless stitched on it. He was all of that. 1-0 Padres, a one-hitter and the kid’s 1st win. There will be plenty more, but this was a gem!
We’re having fun.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

I guess that was his first start ? He sounds like a keeper .............. come on down to Hot Lanta tonight, you get an early game, I have no idea who we are pitching but should be a good series. If Pads can get to our relievers then that's what they need to do, we have been awful out of the pen so far so in some cases the starters have stayed in too long and that has also hurt us

Looks like SD will go with LHP Nick the Vicious smile) ........... Braves will start RHP Soroka who has not been very good lately

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Well,
Nic the Vicious pitched great, but that bunt that turned into a little league triple was not the best play. Losing Tatis to his splits  routine gave us a ss with no clue.
Play ball?
Rick.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Nick was really good and tonight you have the Paddack guy going vs Julio Teheran, could be a good matchup unless Julio starts serving up some HR pitches as he was prone to do last year. I am thankful we don't have to face Tatis

Paddack was as advertised, just some great locations he hit and Reyes killed us

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

You got us back tonight.
Reyes is a big strong one, I think 6’6, 235. That rf dinger was pure power. Low and away, he opposite fielded it like a champ. Now if he can just do that consistently... Pitchers will be punished. They’ll learn that pitch for a fly out will carry.
Good games, great crowd there.
