Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Got bored half through the game yesterday, so turned it off. Now watched game highligtes ( it was obvious who was going to win right at the beginning ) and half time Maroon 5 performance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIwkhEqVq4s . Dull, dull, dull and boring. Shows you how the visuals are so much more important now over the actual quality. Interestingly found myself checking the band's guitars ( look what you did to me, Joe! lol ). And what about those rappers in furs - ahaha, sigh... oh tempora o mores.... Adam Levine is sexy though. You gotta keep that California tattoo firm lol

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Getting some rotation at the homestead is an album from back in 2004; I Am by Atlanta son Michael Tolcher. A sort of Country/Blues/Pop-rock amalgam. This features a track that number of you should recognise, Sooner or Later.

Bit of an up-and-down career path as his next album didn't follow for a decade; however, what may be of note is that I Am features one Warren Haynes on guitar/vocals....

Off to see this guy later this evening in Ashington: really looking forward to a good, if low-key show....

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Ariel Posen - How Long   2019
What is it about these Canadian chappies that they can manage such an eloquent musical statement with such brevity? This album manages to just tip 33 minutes yet takes the listener on a virtuoso ride deft chord changes and alternating sweet and blazing licks. That has to be the only downside to this debut collection, the fact that it’s so soon over. True, there are 10 songs on the album, but 3 of these are short, instrumentals; more preludes than full songs,  but their tonal qualities are shining.

For the songs themselves, there’s a lot of the early John Mayer in them, Things That I’ve Said;  How Long; Fade & Can’t Stop Thinking About You are very reminiscent of our Aynsley Lister, Bluesy & organic. Ariel’s vocals are pleasant & competent but it’s as a guitarist’s guitarist that brings this album out, the arrangements, the musicality and the detail in the songs is outstanding.

Definitely something a bit special - 85%

Well I finally gave this guy a respectful listen and I like this music.  Very much like The Bros. Landreth.  I've been a big fan of Canadian artists since my exposure to David Gogo.  "How Long" is a great song among many on the LP.

Ariel is "live" sideman with Bros Landreth - word is they're doing a studio album for later in 2019. I'll be seeing Joey in April, so  I'll try and get direct info.

Saw Ariel last week, on his 2nd visit to Ashington within 12 months and signs are he'll be back again before too long. Seems to  have an affinity with the town much like Ryan McGarvey has with Hartlepool, which is warming that he'd rather play a small town than the nearby city Newcastle. He's currently based in S. Ireland and was a surprise at the gig when the announced encore, in tribute to his new home, wasn't a Rory Gallagher but a John Martyn number.
