Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

A massive hat tip to a Padre icon.
Trevor Hoffman was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame over the weekend. We long suffering Padre fans have had few high points, but when that ACDC theme Hells Bells came on with a 1 run lead in the last innings and Trevor sprinted in from the bullpen to take the mound, it was a done deal. There would be no last minute come back. His devastating and mystifying change up was unhittable even when everyone including the batter knew it was coming. He was nails!
As a fellow inductee, Brave’s slugger Chipper Jones said about Hoffman in his speech, “I hated facing you bro. Hated it. You had the most devastating change up I’ve ever seen in my life.”
A bronze statue of the legend will be placed near his late teammate Tony Gwynn’s in the ballpark.

That was really cool at the BHOF, loved Chippers view of Mickey Mantle

Well, the rookie pitchers are all getting a shot. Our lagging starters were released and El Paso’s Chihuahuas have been brought up. Baptism of fire time. The Padre’s farm system has a ton of raw talent, said by many to be the envy of the majors.
Go gettem kids!

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

I was tuckered out from 4 days in Nashville and turned the Cubs/Nats game off after the 8th inning.
Great surprise to wake up this morning and see that Cubs rookie David Bote (he's been great so far) hit a walk-off grand slam to give the Cubs a 4-3 win!

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

I was up at 5AM watching Quick Pitch and saw that, thanks very much to he and the Cubs for giving them another loss .......... Congrats to Braves Ronald Acuna who made history last night at home vs the fish, first rookie EVER, let that soak in, ever to hit a home run in 5 consecutive games. And he had two dingers last night so doing the complicated math that is 6 HR in 5 games
He will try it again tonight as ATL goes for a sweep of Miami

and typical of Donnie Baseball's fish they had enough of the HRs and beaned Ronald on the elbow, he had to come out of the game and we don't know yet how much damage was done ............ they also beaned Freddie Freeman but he is AOK
Bravos sweep the fish and now lead the division by two over Philly

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

bad timing for the Braves to not show up at home vs the Rockies, swept in four. The series turned on Sat night when we took a 3-0 lead to the bottom of the ninth, and even Minter our best reliever could not close them out. And this after Folty gave up just 2 hits and zero earned runs through 7. I will say this, the Rockies are a very good club and pretty hot right now, was very impressed with their hitting vs our bullpen, made all the difference .............. off to the Pirates, maybe we can make some noise on the road

We got rolled by the Halos who are making a serious run for a pennant. The team seems  out of phase right now. When a starter does well, the bats go silent and vise versa.

The Angels would need a miracle to make the playoffs. They're 12 games back of Houston and those Swingin' A's!

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Here’s some Kismet.
Padres brought up their young rising star Urias from AAA to play out the rest of the season. He’s a SS/2B who has hit a ton wherever he’s played and fields like a master.
So, you’re a fan and got his jersey to wear at the game, brought your glove and got a seat out in right field. Young Urias hits his first major league dinger and, of course, you catch it on the fly. The usher brings you down after the game to meet him and you hand him the ball.

How cool is that!?
Rick
edit: All the rookie starting pitchers have been brought up as well. The Pads are 5-0 since the kids came up. Maybe the plan is working?

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Plenty here Shreddy. The owners opened up the wallets and signed a biggie in Manny Machado. The long grind to a competitive squad seems over with a serious overload of talent. Injury free and it’s playoff time for my Padres the way it looks now. Scary lineup and good pitching makes it worth the wait.
