Topic: Hotmail issues

Has anyone had problems logging into Hotmail today? When I've tried, it says that It looks like someone else might be using my account, and takes to a page where you have to get them to send a security code to a different email, then makes you fill out your name, etc. Anyone else had this problem today? If so, did you get it fixed? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah they started that security code and linking it to another account thing some years ago. I don't think you've been hacked but might have accessed your hotmail account from a different computer? When faced with this I just opened a new hotmail account and then used it as the 'linked' account. Or if you have an older hotmail account you can link it to that.

BEFORE doing all of the above however, just to be sure, shut off cookies, clear history and cookies and then relaunch back to hotmail (obviously with cookies on). As mentioned above about hijacking accounts I had an account hijacked and they locked me out. When someone does that they often will change your old security questions etc, etc and that would have come up first I think if you had been hacked. Still, always good to be safe rather than sorry.

Hope this helps.

Re: Hotmail issues

I tried to fix it, but no success. But Since most of the emails I received were newsletters from music sites, radio stations, etc. I just created a new account elsewhere. And I've used this Hotmail account since 1999, so I figured it's time for a change anyway.

Re: Hotmail issues

Sorry it didn't work out for you. I had forgotten that if you hadn't logged in for a long time it can also get you with that code thing, but when it starts telling you your answer to your own security questions are wrong... uh-oh. If I hadn't had an account hacked I would find it hard to believe that someone could get by our password and any other security things we may have in place. Maybe Hotmail just takes away the account after a certain amount of time... In any even sorry I couldn't help more.
