Topic: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

I didn't really see a general type topic for KWS so putting this in a new one.
Saw Kenny last night for the 9pm show (they played 6pm too) at Ram's Head on Stage in Annapolis

as always, a great time for me and the rest of the audience thought so too.
its a small venue so that makes for a special show.
No keys this time.... Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Noah Hunt, Chris Layton and Tony Franklin.
Like I said, i have never been to a Kenny show i didn't love but I have really been enjoying Tony in his band. Love watching him play - and you can hear his bass in the mix too.
great sound and not too loud for the small room. fun watching the sound guy enjoying the tunes as much as the rest of us.
Kenny seemed pretty relaxed and also joked around a bit smile

Being the second show of the nite they mixed up the set which was great for me too, glad i picked the second set.... loved hearing "Let Go" from The Place You're In
Hope someone may have gotten a recording of "Shame Shame Shame" - extended solo..
they certainly still had plenty of stamina for a second show.
Got a song from the first Rides album too
Hope they come back soon

big_smile !!!!!! ♥♥♥

I heard that Kenny is joining ZZ Top filling in for Greg Allman for the west coast swing of ZZ's tour.

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Had the pleasure of attending KWS show last night at Billy Bobs's (Worlds largest Honky Tonk) in Fort Worth.  For starters tix were $30.  Not to resurrect the tired old ticket price bs, but I paid 5X for JB tix and I enjoyed KWS just as much...just sayin.  At any rate, the show started out kinda slow.  The first 5 or 6 songs, just seemed like they kind of mailed it in and it was just a job they were doing without a lot of heart and emotion.  Don't get me wrong, they were good, but just didn't seem connected.  Well... that soon changed and Kenny & the fellas began to increase energy & tempo to a frenzied pace.  By the end of the night, I was completely blown away by his playing.  Stellar, stellar, stellar rendition of "You done lost your good thing now"  had these rednecks on their feet hootin & hollerin.  Wow.  Never miss an opportunity if they are close.

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

He is a great guitarist, for sure, but the SRV/Alber King influence is a bit too obvious for me, without adding  much of his own to it.

20 years ago I would have agreed strongly with you, now I disagree strongly.  Kenny Wayne has come along weigh, and he's definitely got his signature stamp on things, and it's not restricted to his guitar playing and singing.  His rep and repertoire have done well.  wink

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

- love his percussive technique, - saw him a year or so ago and then met him after the show, - he is very shy quiet guy.

Yes I do believe he is a bit underrated in the guitar ability acknowledgement.Probably due to him coming up so young and initial interest in the songs more so than shredding.

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

They did Facebook Live for the first 2 songs from the new tour that started last night on Salt Lake City.  Great stuff.  Looks like Tony and the Reverand have moved on.  We always look forward to seeing them live when they come to town.  It's a little strange how consistent the set list is from year to year.  Many songs that seem to never leave the set.  You'd think they would get sick of playing them considering how much touring they do.  Regardless, I love Kenny's energetic playing and of course Noah's voice.  Great band.
