I have a kind of a love/hate relationship with PBS and pretty much always have. I knew about Joe, SRV, Mayer before PBS but sometimes their edits have the opposite effect of what they want to portray. For example Mayer had his 'Room for Squares' CD going and may have even had his next cd out when PBS aired the DVD 'Any Given Thursday' and they cut out entirely the part where he plays his strat!?!! I was bored. When I finally heard how good he is on the electric guitar, probably through his old web site, I was blown away and bought the DVD immediately. I still never listen to the acoustic part.
Oddly enough John Mayer used to have a blog many years ago and it was he who mentioned Joe. I was floored when I heard him and bought the live CD New Day Yesterday since it was the only one the store had, and pretty much everything else after that. Talked him up all over the place locally and always got the "Joe who?" response. Not any more
Back in the days when PBS showed SRV, Doyle Bramhall II and the like, it was the thing to watch. Now I find it is littered with three chord bands still in their 'Nirvana' pigenhole but trying to stand out.
I will still watch when Joe is scheduled to play on PBS but at least now they pronounce his name properly instead of the former 'Joe Bone-a-massa...
