Topic: Live at the Greek = 3 Kings?

I know there was (is?) an ongoing lawsuit with Joe and one of the King estates...    but LATG was that tour, right?  I mean, Muddy Wolf was Muddy & Wolf, and it seems LATG is the 3 Kings...?

Re: Live at the Greek = 3 Kings?

It is. One glance at the songs on it would've answered your question though.

I did look at the songs, that's how I knew it was from the 3 Kings tour, I was just looking for verification.

Re: Live at the Greek = 3 Kings?

I've kind of worried that because of the cover art people think it is just some random show that was filmed while he was out on the road and not the special performance it really was. I understand that because of the legal issues they probably couldn't use the 3 Kings in the title or reference Freddie King, but if for example they had an image of Joe with the Albert V and the girls and horns section in the background with maybe BB's face in the moon looking down over the venue, people might then recognize that this was indeed a special show. Hope the sales are good for this DVD because having seen 5 of the performances, this is a show that is definitely worth buying. It was such a classy performance, Joe with his big blues band playing music from three of the most iconic bluesmen of all time. It doesn't get much better than that.

Or if the artist would have put some crowns on the cover..
Say 3 of them..
in groups of 3 sprinkled around the cover...

wouldn't have had to say 3 Kings Tour on it but the cover would have conveyed it.
hmmm

Worst case if sales are average, it's another show to run on PBS to increase Joe's exposure.

I can't clip N paste from my phone, but

I had a feeling that was the case. It sucks they had to deal with all that. I wish them the best on their sales. As I said, this is a show everyone needs to buy and watch. Pure blues heaven.

I doubt they will have trouble selling this.....
While it was indeed a special tour/show....don't forget some fans might get a bit peeved to buy something with all that Blues on it...just saying when they sold tix for some tours before they announced it was acoustic tour, well, we don't have to go into the whole ticket price thing again but when you only got so much $$ and you like your Joe rockin and electric, it can be a factor. and if you are hoping for a dvd that reflects Joe's cds.... I guess what i am saying is, IMHO it would be more likely that people would purchase this not knowing it was the special tribute than the other way around...IDK....
but there is enough ads about it ...2.65 million facebook fans......who knows how many email lists. I've seen the ad about 30 times in the past week big_smile

I think the track list is telling enough for sure....I'll be getting it for some of the actual song choices.......
enjoyed Muddy Wolf but haven't replayed it much.....that's just me! not even particularly looking that forward to the british kings release. don't get me wrong its good stuff (i know this thanks to youtubes big_smile ) and i think its cool for Joe to do tributes as he wishes but my personal preference is going to be Joe songs with few if any covers.....and less time in between them trying to sell this.... smile not complaining on the frequency of joe's solo stuff in any way - but when you feel like you have to wait for something else instead of just waiting for the creative output.....mumble big_smile

anyway looking at the track list before i replied did get me stoked for this release smile - and i do appreciate them all

and also the artwork does have the crown in it. on one of the tour buses in the cover....

Can't believe you are not stoked for the British Blues, as I've not seen Joe as heavy or into it as he was. big_smile

Actually, that's WHY I was stoked for Muddy Wolf, and I'm REALLY stoked for LATG/3 Kings.  To be honest, while I love british rock, for whatever reason I have always preferred Joe on the "American side" (R&B) of the blues...  "Blues Deluxe" album was my 1st into to Joe, and I love when he pulls out the horn section on albums/tours, I would love to hear an album of more groovy American blues (more R&B than rock) with horns... =3 Kings.

FWIW, I like his voice better on these type (more R&B) songs too, I think his voice is more suited for it.  JMHO of course.

only thing that's stopping me from pre-ordering from here is the $18.75usd shipping fees.. (besides the 33% exchange rate)
you'd think on the fan forum that a pre-sale would give a price break to the fans.
Just pre-ordered from Amazon Canada.. free shipping and in CDN prices too.

Re: Live at the Greek = 3 Kings?

I think some may be reading a little too much into this.... Personally, I'm excited to hear one of my favorites, Going Down!! As far as the DVD's Joe's music vs tributes..... It appears that at least once a year there is a "themed" DVD released.... Muddy Wolf, Radio City, Vienna Opera, etc.... and I'm willing to bet next year we get Carnegie Hall.... I guess my rambling point is they probably have more sales with these "themed" releases vs Joe's standard tours only because they won't be the same type of content every year...
For a us hardcore fans, we would eat up a release every year of Joe's music.... But for the casual fan, they would probably enjoy more of the the "themed" stuff.

For me, I've got Tour De Force and Beacon Theater, and I've pre ordered Greek. Can't wait!!!
