Re: Back Door Slam

Hey all, Quite the show last nite by Back Door Slam.
The doors opened at 8:30 pm and there was a large line
of about 150 people waiting in the drizzle on Mass. ave.
Come to find out they were all there to see another band
called the Teapacks that were playing downstairs in the club
Back Door Slam were playing up-stairs which has a capacity of
142 people . Ran into Davy,Adam, and Ross at the bar ,( very cool
guys) They let me get some pictures with them at the bar. They said
they'd be goin on at 10;15pm and playing for about an hour, ( there was 4 bands on the bill)
I hung at the bar for about an hour with them.Cheering on the
Red Sox ,even though they're big Football (soccer) fans. Good Karma was in the air
as the Sox had a nice 6-1 lead when the boys went in for sound-check
The venue was near empty ( I counted 32 people ) when BDS took
the stage at exactly 10:15   I was front row heineken in hand within seconds.
As they started into" Too Late " there was some piercing feedback and the band stopped.
Davy joked "Didn't know we were heavy metal did ya?"
This was quickly sorted out by their soundguy and the party was on track again.
Backed by a solid rythm section ,Davy showcased his guitar virtuosity and soulful
vocals on songs like "Outside Woman Blues"--- " Heavy on my mind " <<< awesome live
"Gotta Leave" -- " Come Home" --- and  " It"ll All Come Around"  which Davy called an optimistic
blues song . They finished their awesome set with their cover of  "Red House" which sent shivers
down my spine watching Davy's guitar excellence just feet from me.
Met the lads after the show and bought  "RollAway" which they gladly autographed for me .
Adam the bass player also hooked me up with some stickers, pins, and  cards for free downloads
and Davy gave me his guitar pick. Had a great time and the band were spot on ... Shredit
load up the happy bus you don't wont to miss Back Door Slam . The best $9.00 i've spent in a long time
( closer to $99.00 with alcohol included ) smile                Paul

Oh ya the soundguy kept me posted on the Sox game !   13-1 ...Go Sox  !!!!

Didn't know BDS....will look into it right away! Thanx...YOU GUYS ROCK MY SOX!! smile

Re: Back Door Slam

I'm on board in a big way with this band. Some of the most soulful vocals I've heard in a young blues band in a long time. Actually young or old. Reminds me of a cross between James Dewar and Procol Harum's Gary Brooker with guitar licks that Clapton wishes he could still come up with.  These guys have the potential to be legends. Great album with strong songs and excellent guitar work.

Cathy,
You should have come what a great show, backup band Bye N Bye was great,a country band with fiddle,mandolin,banjo,2 guitars.Country is not my first choice in music, but these were really fine musicians and i really liked their set. Back Door Slam came on and really ripped it up.They played just about everything off their cd Roll Away, and the highlight of the nite was when the banjo player from Bye N Bye who it turns is a good blues harmonica player jammed with BDS on Red House. I'am trying to get them a gig at the State Theatre,i know one of the owners and i sent their cd to one of the promoters i know for the Hagerstown Blues Festival. Got to help the young blues artist keep the blues alive.

33 bucks isn't bad, but the dvd is in PAL format. Only works on select dvd players but will work in your computer.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
