Topic: Gibson LP's with Joe's signature on fretboard: R9's or something else?

Hi

Just sat here watching the DVD of Radio City Music Hall and it's on So What Would You Do?

The LP that Joe is playing is what looks like an R9 with his signature in the fretboard...there's also a black LP he used on the KTBA cruise (video of Mountain Climbing on YouTube) which also has his signature on the fretboard.

What are the specs on these? Are they R9's, JB Sigs (wrong tuning heads and knobs) or some other spec?

Obviously Joe will know and hopefully chip in to answer this...

Guitars: Fender American Original 60s Strat, Fender American Vintage 52 Tele, Gibson Les Paul Traditional
FX: Various including - Ceriatone Centura, Fire Custom Shop Carpe Diem
Amp: Fender ML212 Deville + 212 extention cabinet

Re: Gibson LP's with Joe's signature on fretboard: R9's or something else?

I think the guitars with Joe signature on the fretboard are non production models made only for Joe. The LP is likely modeled  after the R9, but since its a custom guitar, it could have been made to any spec's that Joe wanted

WildWood guitars in Colorado did a run of guitars like that. The Serial Numbers were "Joe B xxx". I actually owned one that Joe himself owned. They are very much like the Reissues that Gibson does. The one I had was a monster neck though, more like a R7 than a R9.

So to answer your question, no, they are technically NOT Reissue's. Just a run that was done for a dealer.

I didn't know that, I remember reading somewhere that the guitars with Joe's name on the fingerboard were one off, custom made by Gibson for Joe. Maybe it started out that way, then a limited number were produced?

Maybe I should have clarified. The guitar itself was a run for Wildwood guitars. The name inlaid in the fingerboard is a one off that was done for Joe, but the guitar is the same one sold at W.W..

Since he at least 2 different finishes it's more than a one off. But you're saying the spec is the same as the Bonaburst then?

Joe does have more than one model of Gibson with his name inlaid in the fingerboard, yes. Gibson has never done a production guitar with Joe's name inlaid on the fingerboard available for sale. In other words, the guitars he plays are his models, I.E., the "Bonaburst" from W.W., or the 335 sig guitar, whatever. Gibson will do them FOR JOE with his name inlaid into the board. I hope that clarifies it.

In other words, it would be like Gibson sending me a production R9 with my name inlaid on the fingerboard.
