Re: New forum theme...??

I saw the new theme this morning when it was up for a while, it looked fine. Its just a little different look, its nothing to get all worked up about. People need to lighten up a little, obviously they're testing it out trying to get it right. I expect there may even be some overall improvements to the site, and not just cosmetic changes.

Re: New forum theme...??

I find it starts at the first page as the new theme but switches quickly and stays on the old colours

I use my phone to be on site and It still doesn't show the names of the posters just a blank gray area next to the post

Re: New forum theme...??

well that was weird  i logged out accidentally last time then longed in and it has looked strange in the forum. Red then back to normal my posts appearing then disappearing what is going on.
I think this is why I thought no one was on that much. Maybe it has something to do with any work they are doing on the page? Not sure but drove me nuts

First question, have you logged in at all from your phone and home computer and any other device?  All of them.  I recommend this to everyone.  It is odd that those who have not registered are seeing (presumably) only the faults mentioned.  I can imagine their surprise registering to find this beautiful white and blue highly readable presentation being displayed! tongue

Perhaps an archiving is taking place during an operating system or software install, upgrade, maintenance regiment, or complete or version change... hmm

Guess we hang and comment in the meantime.  SPEAK UP, especially if new user. wink

I dont expect anything to change, frankly, Gary.  I just advised logging in from all devices in case there is an upgrade, etc. taking place.  That "might" prevent crazy things like posts disappearing from happening, plus it "should" allow the server(s) to gather the pertinent IP addresses and security tokens, etc.

Re: New forum theme...??

Hey all, Scott AKA Joe Bonamassa's Webmaster here!

So to answer everyone's questions (especially Jane H. She actually sent a note that got to my email and I hope she reads this)

Yep, we're currently playing around with some styling and James Ross thought that a black/red would be more "rock & roll" - but we specifically did the change in a way that wouldn't affect anyone that was logged in as we stand by our statement that we know this is a "home" to a lot of fans and it's not our intention to do anything but make things better.

I'm reading loud and clear that many of you don't like the colors so I'm going to work with them to make things much closer to the current theme and just improve on it rather than a drastic change.

I am also glad that you guys pointed out the missing username issue, as I don't think James Ross even knows about this. Chances are that the names are all still there, it's just the same color writing on the same color background which makes them look like they're missing.

Ok, so now on to Spam posts. I want to see what happens when someone reports these, which email gets notified that they've been flagged. It very well might be going to an email that's not usually checked. I'll make sure to figure this out as Spam is kind of a personal tick for me and typically when you encounter spam on the Internet you're powerless to it... but in this one instance I actually can combat it... assuming you all would be nice enough to flag it as it comes in that is!

Thanks again, post some questions/comments on here and I'll make sure they're heard!

Thanks for responding Scott. Really nice to know you guys are listening to everyone here and taking people's thoughts and concerns into consideration for the new format.

Re: New forum theme...??

I hope I'm wrong but so many registered users have migrated from here to Twitter, Facebook, Periscope etc etc that to me this looks more like a restructuring to put this web site on a kind of auto pilot. If you click on "Informer Technologies" who are the supporters of this page, it makes me feel even more uneasy about this site since if they are web specialists, their own website needs a makeover. It's just a hunch and I'll admit, perhaps a paranoid one, but it has happened to many a site when the population drops and let's face it, having Joe's comments from time to time were one of the real draws to this site. When was the last time he posted here?

Re: New forum theme...??

Scott here again,

So I just spoke with our designers again and they have done some more tweaks to the design. It's now simply a few color changes and there shouldn't be any missing user names or other changes to functionality.

The good news is that, as said before, all users have control over what theme they use. When you log in, you'll see the "classic" look. You can change the theme options by clicking on "Profile" then "Settings" then under "Available styles" you can select any look you want from the dropdown. I'm happily using the Jamesross theme they made.

This new look will also be default for all new users, but anyone with an account that dates back before the switch will always see their old theme.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Leave them here and I'll relate them to the team!

Thanks,
-Scott M.

Lol, yea, "Informer Technologies" is just some old company/one guy coding in his basement that made the "PunBB" system MANY years ago. They gave the code out for free and when we started this forum and Joe was struggling to sell tickets, let's be honest, we needed it to be free.

We could have upgraded to a more slick, feature rich forum since then, but there was not only no need, there was no want.

Fans and hard-core users of this forum wanted it to stay exactly as it is. A semi-secret community, a place to share some great insider Joe news, pics and stories. We updated the theme because when you don't want to tear down anything, the best you can do is give it a fresh coat of paint. The almost sad truth is that you're right. Most casual fans have stopped using forums. Social media is all they need and want. But it doesn't mean the people here don't have a voice or a right to continue this forum, so we're doing what we can to make sure you know we're still here for you.

Joe posts on here when he has time. Which for a guy that tours about 300 days a year... is... seldom. I know for a fact he still comes here and reads things from time to time and if there's ever anything on here he is concerned with, he lets us know immediately.

March 8.

It's totally the best when we hear from the boss on the Forum, but poor guy is pulled in too many directions.

He is almost forced into doing Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Periscope, etc.  I am sort of thankful to Joe in an obtuse way, since following him is the only reason I finally joined all those and got pulled kicking and screaming into the 21st century.  But doing all the social media stuff is a full-time job in and of itself.
