Topic: Gibson Les Paul 50S Tribute

Anyone got or tried one of these?

http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric … ibute.aspx

Want a Les Paul but can't afford the Traditional that I would really like...and love goldtops.

So thinking I could get one of these and modify it over time - New pups, black plastics (for that JB look) and once I can afford a Trad (or maybe even an R9 - one can dream!!) fit a bigsby to the Tribute...

Guitars: Fender American Original 60s Strat, Fender American Vintage 52 Tele, Gibson Les Paul Traditional
FX: Various including - Ceriatone Centura, Fire Custom Shop Carpe Diem
Amp: Fender ML212 Deville + 212 extention cabinet

Re: Gibson Les Paul 50S Tribute

I don't have experience of this model so cannot comment on it but I do have a 2011 60s Tribute Goldtop (P-90s) and the build quality is very good so I don't think you need have any concerns in that regard.

I also have a Traditional which is noticeably heavier and the body is about .5 cm thicker than the Tribute. The Tribute does feel very different from the Traditional but it is still a lovely guitar to play.

Sorry ... not answering your question either ... but had to +1 Richard's comment on the 2011 60's Tribute.

Re: Gibson Les Paul 50S Tribute

- my son has a 2010 50’s tribute with P90’s, he likes the big neck and the sound, - it resonates really well acoustically. it did take a knock on stage and when you look closely the wood itself is not great quality, but it is a studio model.

This is him playing an eclectic medley on it: https://youtu.be/FE9B1QuugL0

Strongly suggest trying before you buy because of Gibson’s questionable quality control. Also ask on the Les Paul forum, lot of knowledge over there, although best not to mention the 2015 range... wink

Thanks. Oh I know all about the 2015 range....would have had me a Traditional last year if they hadn't been so...well you know!!
Got a 52 Tele RI instead and love, love, love it.

But obviously now I'm hankering for a Les Paul again...!!

I hadn't realised they had a thinner body...not by much, but still...might have to see where my budget can stretch to as that does put me off actually...

Just wish I could find somewhere in the UK that has a good range of japanese Tokai's!!

Re: Gibson Les Paul 50S Tribute

If this is the one that runs around the $899 mark I've tried one at Guitar Center.  I can honestly say I really dislike matte finishes on guitars. I don't like the way the neck feels due to the finish. The whole guitar really felt like plastic. Not my thing in the least. Epiphone seems to be going this route to with its Standards with the Matte Finish on the back and Gloss top. I hate the look.

Guitars: Gibson 2015 LP Traditional in Honeyburst, Gibson LP Studio Deluxe, Fender American Deluxe Telecaster, MIM Fender Strat with Dimarzio Areas, MIM Fender Hss Strat,  Epiphone Sheraton II, Breedlove Acoustic
Amplitube 4 with Scarlett 6i6 and 2i4 interfaces through studio monitors.
