Topic: Big Time Recognition! The guitar nerd from Utica.

A serious piece of journalism from a mainstream source. Too good to put up in the interview thread.

That was a fun day i remember the Washington Post there while I was hanging with Joe on his bus. Way cool for Joe to get this kind of recognition. So very cool

Thanks Rick.

I thought this write-up wasn't going to happen, I've been looking for it.  I was at that show too, I even had a conversation with the writer while in line at the meet 'n greet.  Joe and Ron were talking at the time and I think he could see that I was more interested in their conversation than the one we were having!!  I love talking about Joe to anyone...except when Joe is right there talking just feet from me.

Re: Big Time Recognition! The guitar nerd from Utica.

How great for him to get such a big write-up, but, the part about his voice is SO wrong. I can tell you, after last night's show, his voice continues to excel. Bah! lol

Well, it was truthful. Lacking a natural great voice, he's worked and practiced hard to become a good singer and I think  he would agree with that assessment. Go ahead and read the whole thing. I think you'll like it.

This reminds me of The Field of Dreams - If you build it, he will come...

Re: Big Time Recognition! The guitar nerd from Utica.

Great article. Good to see Joe, and the blues get some recognition. As for only the business model being remembered in 30 or 40 years.... ahhhh I don't think so. I feel Joe is not just revitalizing the blues but in may cases reinventing the blues. Taking his style further than it has ever gone or anyone ever dreamed it would go. I saw Clapton in '67 and said "How is this possible for someone to play like this?" I say the same thing about Joe in 2016.

Re: Big Time Recognition! The guitar nerd from Utica.

Nice write up and some interesting tidbits. If I was an editor I would remove or rewrite the mention of Joe as a singer.I think an expanded description of his vocals could have been mentioned.
For instance.Although known for his guitar playing,he has worked hard to improve his vocals to match up with the guitar!

Re: Big Time Recognition! The guitar nerd from Utica.

This article has been added to the Joe's Inteviews sticky.  It provides details that I've never seen in another interview, so it's worth a full read even if the first mention of Joe's voice stings fans who consider Joe's vocals to be an important part of the whole package.

This IS big-time recognition - this Washington Post article has been picked up and published in the Los Angeles Times as well.  Geoff Edgers gets the fact that Joe is not just creating new music but is an ambassador for the blues.

Re: Big Time Recognition! The guitar nerd from Utica.

Yes, great article in the mainstream media! I did grimace a touch at the singing comment, knowing how much joe has worked to improve his vocals, but a very complimentary article in a major publication.
Kudos Joe!
