Topic: Joe's stratocaster string gauge?

Hello guys, I hope everyone's having lovely holidays!
I started playing .11s on my Les Paul cuz of Joe, and I like them, Joe's settings work for my DSL 2000 aswell. Since I'm getting a strat soon, I've figured that I'd like to know what string gauge he uses on them. I started this topic cuz I couldn't find a satisfiying answer anywhere. I've heard many times that he uses .10s, but nobody mentions the remaining 5 strings. It crossed my mind that he might be using Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys, but then I came across a site that claims he uses .10-.48s. If someone could tell me the exact gauge of all 6 strings, that would be swell!

Re: Joe's stratocaster string gauge?

- I am certainly not an expert here, but don’t forget that Joe top-wraps on a Les Paul allowing you to go to a larger gauge and still bend which is not an option on a Strat (obviously).

My YouTube channel with plenty of my Joe's videos dating from 2009 inc his first Hammersmith Odeon ones:

I'm familiar with all the details about his Les Paul setup, there's plenty of info on it online, but little on the strat.

Re: Joe's stratocaster string gauge?

I thought he used 11 - 52 on everything.

Nope, I've even heard him say that he uses .10s on strats.

Re: Joe's stratocaster string gauge?

Even if Joe doesn't use them, I personally would recommend at least trying a set of 11's on your Strat/Tele...I have never looked back since I did - makes you have to work just that bit harder!!

Guitars: Fender American Original 60s Strat, Fender American Vintage 52 Tele, Gibson Les Paul Traditional
FX: Various including - Ceriatone Centura, Fire Custom Shop Carpe Diem
Amp: Fender ML212 Deville + 212 extention cabinet

For me Strats can vary what gage works for what guitar. I have a Trower Strat with 10's which are perfect. I have a SRV Lenny replica that has , no kidding, 12's that are awesome tone. So for me on Strats it depends. For my LPs its 11-52 with g string 18p. With wrap around. Going from 22 for g string to 18p makes an incredible difference in playability exspecially for bends. But at the end of the day it's what works for you. My two cents

Absolutely agree. That's why I'm only advocating trying them...but if you don't try, then you'll never know!!

Re: Joe's stratocaster string gauge?

Actually the last interview video Joe did was about the 3 British Kings tour
He stated 10's sound best on a LP but for what he does he says he needs 11's on to stay in tune.

As for string height (over gauge) I'm not sure, I think I read it's a middle to low-high but some one like Ron (Cindy Ron) may know height.

---------------

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

Joe likes it to fight back a little which I am sure all gear geeks can appreciate. Actually there is a great vid that goes into detail of string height etc of Joes setup. I will try to fine and post.
Cheers Ron
