Topic: Spammers

For those loyal and legitimate forum users:

If anyone should notice any spammer activity on the forums, please be sure to inform me so that they can be taken care of properly. For some reason I don't always get the reports about spam activity, so if you feel that someone really needs to be looked at, you may either DM me on here or email me directly at ericd@jr-adventures.com. I am trying my best to ensure that we don't get any of those annoying Ad's on here but I am only one person.

Thanks for the help and enjoy!

Re: Spammers

Eric, Just now saw this. I am on spam control about 3 times a day. They generally appear over night and everybody is good about reporting. They just report the post and it shows up as "new reports" I ban the offender and delete the posts. Occasionally like this weekend I was a bit busy and and didn't check in as often but that is one of the duties as moderator. So you are not alone.

Re: Spammers

I offer a few bonus tips about reporting spam:

1) If you can, add a new on topic post after detecting and reporting obvious spam.  It can help minimize the interruption.  A cut and paste (repeat) of somebody else's previous post (just before the spam, or anywhere) does the trick also.
2) If the spam post is at the "top spot" (meaning most recent and therefore most likely to be read first by any site visitor or member), either the suggestion above or/and a posted reply to any other thread in the category demonstrates forum activity and continuity.
3) SPAM REPORTED, although informative, is an unfortunate added distraction.  I do not usually type those words, I just report and apply techniques mentioned; new relevant post, etc.  If I see SPAM REPORTED by anyone, I report that too.  Clears the spam and report out.  That insures maximum relevance and topic thread continuity. wink

You Tina!!!

Re: Spammers

when you ban them, you should wipe their profile sig, since that stays up as a clickable spammer link.

I've updated some things, let's see if this works!

Re: Spammers

Hey all, JBWM (Joe Bonamassa's Web Master) here.
I just upgraded the forums to the most recent version, so things should be faster and smoother.
I also added security all over the forums (especially when a new user signs up) in an effort to kill the spambots.

Please let me or Eric from the Street Team know what you think of the changes.

We want to make sure we're making the forums better for everyone and value your input on our efforts.

Thanks for being fans, really,

Re: Spammers

Does anyone know when the draw for Mr Kyps tickets to see Joe is happening?
Or has it all ready taken place.

Re: Spammers

Hey all, JBWM here.

By the by, JBWM or Joe Bonamassa's Web Master is a title I inherited when I started here about 4 years ago. My name is Scott and I'm Joe's Digital Marketing Director. That's a fancy way of saying that I handle his Social stuff and any ads that end up on a screen, including JBonamassa.com ..speaking of which, we're finally doing some major changes to. James Ross Advertising is a design firm we're good buddies with that's helping us modernize our sites. We know the forum is hallowed ground, and don't want to make many changes over here, but we intend to give it the same love our new site is getting. I just made them an admin yesterday to make sure that they check how "responsive" the forums are, which is a fancy way of ensuring it will work well now and in the future for modern phones, tablets, wrist communicator devices, digital eye-implants, neuro-telepathy, and any other technologies known or unknown.

With that said, JamesRossAdvertising is cool. Chances are you'll never see a post from them. They just wanted to look under the hood.

Thanks, and Rock On,
-Scott (JBWM)

Thanks for post. Ripoffs are schemes in order to con you from your money. They may arrive by publish, phone call, text,  email, or a scammer might even turn up in your doorstep.

i just saw this older post. the irony of it being left right before JBWM's post is almost killing me.....if they delete it i'll remove this quote of it

anyway I wanted to let other users to know that the new mod added is legit even though his user name looks exactly like spam
I've sent comments to the office about reported spam not being deleted right off so hopefully they are getting notification of when we report a thread or looking into it. even with a bot preventer type thing i guess it doesn't prevent non-bot produced spam. they have literally taunted us here before letting us know they are not all bots, or whatever the proper terminology is. i am sure the bot preventer thing helps with the massive spam loads left all over at once though. the system we have with the post reporting and a short reply post helps prevent excessive reporting so until otherwise instructed by those officially designated i guess that is still the best protocol, well along with directly emailing Eric as he noted above if it persists.
welcome jamesrossadvertising...........

Re: Spammers

I for one wouldn't mind an upgrade here on the forum

the ability to embed a picture would be nice, instead of just posting a link to another web site would be an added plus.

+1, though I think it was a way to reduce b/w and  avoid virus infection on this antique.

Re: Spammers

Okay; so I've assumed admin mantle for the last month, on recommendation of Jane H.

I've noticed and handled Indian "Escort" sites, various pharmaceuticals and mainly Indonesian gaming slots sites. Sorry to have to say, but the ethos of this Forum is NOT one for sex, drugs & dice rolls....

Each will be met with ZERO tolerance; any I miss, please notify in the usual way...
