Topic: Eric Steckel in the deep, deep South....of Bavaria!
Had an amazing experience last Thursday watching Eric Steckel play in southern Germany. He was due to play two gigs in Germany as part of his European tour – the first was in Hamburg and the second was in Munich... or so he thought...it turned out that the venue was actually about 120 miles from Munich in a small hotel in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere in the Bavarian Forest! GMac and I had booked a room in the hotel and it turned out that Eric and his band were the only other guests that night, so we had a chance to hang out with them after the show.
There were, unfortunately, only about 80+ people in the audience and it appeared that the majority of them had never heard of Eric before that evening, but they were all converts by the end! Eric put on a brilliant display of virtuoso guitar playing and was met with rapturous applause, standing ovations and two encores. They pretty much sold out of CDs at the end and everybody was coming up and saying how great it had been. As a side note, GMac had written to Eric weeks earlier to ask if he would play one of her favourites songs from an earlier album and he duly delivered by playing ‘Feels Like Home‘ – when he came off stage he told her he had played it specially for her! Respect!
Had a chance to chat with Eric and the band afterwards about everything from guitars and musical taste to life on the road and the music industry, which was just great. By the time we got up the next morning, they were long gone, making the long drive back to Holland...
