Topic: Boscoe France Band

Well, I did a search and found several mentions of Boscoe, going back to the GC Bluesmasters two years ago Emceed by Joe and won by Boscoe. I was impressed then by his folksy ways and killer chops. I'd seen posts of his performance by others here, especially Curby who lives nearby Boscoe's home ground.
We finally had our chance at a small festival here up in the beautiful mountain town of Julian, a low key event in its 16th year and the SoCal gang showed in force for a day in the sun and pines.
So, here is Boscoe's own thread. If he shows up in your area, don't miss him! We were blown away.
I got the whole set so here are the first two. Shot from elbows on the stage at his feet. Sorry for the jerks now and then, the darned stage support for the shade screen was somewhat electrified and I'd touch it every now and then while shooting since I was right next to it. Kerzap!!! yikes (not life threatening but a good tingle)

Re: Boscoe France Band

Stormy Monday jam with youngsters Leilani Kilgore and Chase Walker, whose bands were on earlier in the day. Leilani and Chase were at the last Baked Potato gig and Leilani was sporting a JoeB signed Goldtop LP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUacLrZ … e=youtu.be
I had a nice chat with them after the show. What a refreshing thing to see young talent supporting the Blues. There was also a special presentation at the show of a check of $3k for the KTBA youth events by the San Diego Blues chapter that had been raised at the Spring Harp Blowout event.

Very cool Rick! What a great video! I remember hearing about Leilani at the baked potato. So cool she got to meet Joe and have her guitar signed. She has a very bright future, what a talent!

Re: Boscoe France Band

The guy to talk to about Boscoe is Curby; hopefully he'll see this thread next time he drops by and add. meanwhile here's something he reported from a couple of years back:-

Curby wrote:

There's more to Kentucky than bourbon, thoroughbred horses and basketball.  It's a state rich in music and friendly people.  Mitzi and I saw Boscoe last night and he just fawned over her from beginning to end.  I asked him about his Epiphone hollow body guitar and the next thing I know he's handing it to me and Mitz and took a picture of Mitzi for his facebook.  He pulled it out during the show a dedicated a B.B. King tune for her.  I haven't seen her so happy in a coon's age and she told me she can live for ten more years after this.
I just heard this week that a well respected Indie filmmaker from this area did a documentary of Boscoe.  I found the first part and it's quite good and hope ALL my friends here take the time to watch it.  Maybe some here can help him get some more gigs.
He told me he's doing something in Memphis next month and then going to the studio in LA with Pete Anderson.

Re: Boscoe France Band

Just saw this Rick.   Boscoe is from a town about 30 minutes from where I live.  Lucky enough to see him a couple of times and to meet him once.  He is very nice and extremely talented.  Thanks for the links.   He has a small child so I think that is one thing that keeps him from touring more.   He plays several local clubs   on Fridays and  Saturdays.   A fun time where ever you get to see him

Re: Boscoe France Band

Just been sent a copy of Boscoe France Band - Live At Lamasco (2/21/14) album. One of those live recordings that makes you just wish you were there. Raw, gritty delivery in a charged atmosphere, you just don't want the CD to end.

Gotta get this guy over this side of the pond, sooner rather than later.

Believe it or not, I tried to get that cd at the gig and they had sold out their 10 copies! sad
He's a treat to see on stage. Bare feet stomping and tearing it up.

Boscoe played our local Blues Festival yesterday up in the pines again with a mellow crowd of about 1000 more or less. A beautiful clear day with the temp around 95 but dry with a nice breeze so the heat was fine. Shade tents set up for everyone too.

The SoCal crew was there in force with Groovy Hoovey and Vivian down from San Jose with the SD BonaSpuds Suzie and Paul, their friend Fred, Dean and Nancy, Chona  and Johnny the Shu. I got a copy of Live at Lamasco this time and had a nice little chat with him too. He drove out with his kids and grannie in his van and killed it with a bass and drummer he'd never played with and an hour of practice so the set list was some old favs that everyone knows. Among the usual crowd pleasers was THE BEST version of Folsom Prison Blues I ever heard by a long shot. That cat can sling some wicked slide my friends.
