Topic: An acoustic instrumental my son wrote for a departed friend...

When we lived in our old house, we had lovely neighbours called Alex and Alison, who used to gladly invite our boys into their home. Alex loved music, and he introduced our boys to Woodstock, Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles etc. by showing them documentaries and concerts when they were still toddlers. In a lot of ways, I believe their love of music was nurtured by him.

When we moved, we constantly promised each other to catch up again and to hold a music quiz night & dinner. Life got busy, we kept forgetting or putting it off.

Then recently we heard the terrible news that Alex had to be rushed off to Sydney with an aggressive, terminal brain cancer. Now we will never get together for that quiz night, and we never got to say farewell to him.

A couple of weeks ago, my older son (now 15) sat down and wrote this short guitar instrumental piece to say goodbye to Alex...

A sad and hopefully tune in one piece. If.... asking around for him. May he rest in peace!

Re: An acoustic instrumental my son wrote for a departed friend...

So sorry for ur loss Devan

Jordan did an awesome job on that piece .. I'm sure Alex is pleased.
Hoping this brings comfort to u and the boys .. may fond memories remain.

Ur story is so reminiscent of an experience 12 years ago, next month. Lost one of my best friends to the same affliction. He was given 6 weeks notice. Because Randy was never one to "burden" anyone, I learned of his state .. minutes too late. We get older, busy in our own lives, time passes, things happen.

I won't bore u with a poem I wrote and read at his eulogy, but I'd like to share with u, my closing comments that day.

My friends, I have but one message.

We are taught at an early age about how we should value our friendships, embrace each moment and cherish it like it was our last. Well, I wasn't so fortunate this day.

Six weeks ago, one of my best friends was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
I found out today.

Now, take out your pens and write down the names of those who are near and dear to you. Those who you have not spoken to for at least six weeks.

Call Them! (if only to say hello)

Thanks for sharing Devan .. Kudos to Jordan! (perhaps Jordan can get back to finishing that transporter eh .. lol)

Cheers!  cool

Stunningly beautiful.  Thank you for sharing, and I know your beautiful song will help others who loved Alex heal as well.

I'm deeply touched. May the song bring peace to Alex, Jordan and your family. It's lovely.

Very beautiful

Re: An acoustic instrumental my son wrote for a departed friend...

Thanks for the kind words everyone.  Buzzy, sorry to hear about your friend Randy...  Thanks for the tip.  This event has reminded us that we have MANY friends who have drifted out of our circle of contact for a while.  I plan to spend 2015 mending those fences...

... oh yes, and Jordan (and his little brother) are still working on that time machine transporter thingy! smile
