Yeah he's great, I saw him in late March in Rotterdam and yet again a lovely show. I grew up on Dire Straits and his solo stuff. He's got great tone on a strat as well as a les paul, both instantly recognizable.
Great to hear the show was as good as expected. I really do think he's special! If you haven't heard it yet, he's on the new Sonny Landreth CD..You can tell it's him instantly. He does have a unique sound. Can't wait to hear more. Cathy
Mark & Sonny together......... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8qeacBZGA4
Oh man.....that's as sweet as honeysuckle in full bloom.....
Never had the pleasure of seeing Knopfler (I just added him to my Gruver list, though...), but he's always been in my top ten favs. He plays with such ease that it's almost scary. I can remember when "Sultans of Swing" came out, he was being touted as the next Bob Dylan. That's just swell, but didn't anyone notice his guitar work?? Brothers In Arms was just stellar.....
Sonny plays a little hole-in-the-wall, turn of the century movie house in Pittsburgh called the Rex at least once a year. I'm in awe every time I see him. He's on a different level.....
btw, I found out just how great a lyricist John Hiatt is by searchin' for Sonny tunes about 5 years ago. A little backwards, I guess, but it worked.....
Just got a pair to see him here in Sept. Really looking forward to finally seeing one of the great players and songsmiths of our times. Cool venue, Humphrys on the Bay.

Mark is the only one of my guitar heroes that I've never gotten to see live. Given my present age (and infirmity), I suppose that means seeing him is a "bucket list" thing now...

Then you can maybe delete this thing from the bucket list now.
Mark is coming to the USA/Canada in September and October and is playing 37 gigs there.(until now)
Starting on the West Coast in Vancouver goin down to San Diego, playing also RED ROCKS,
and 2 concerts at OUR Beacon Theatre and ending up like Joe did with 4 gigs in Florida.
He is not playing Iowa but you can catch him up in Kansas City.
You can see all here: https://tour.markknopfler.com/
Go and see Mark as he a master of the guitar as well. A Master of Tone and technique.
Joe has a lot more fire but Mark I think has the best Band around him.
They are playing 2+ hours of relaxed Rock / Folk Music.
Bass: Glenn Worf from Wisconsin
Richard Bennett from Chicago
2 of the best Scottish musicians
Ian Thomas on Drums
Guy Fletcher from Dire Straits
Jim Cox from California
All really Masters on their Instrument
So when he is in town near you, go to see him...
MK and JB rule. They are simply the Best
Do It Coach! Tix are pricey but not much more than JoeB.
Here's a nice vid from his tour two years ago to whet the appetite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGlGBIzN2ls

His prices for the KC show seem eminently reasonable (especially considering that it includes his latest CD), but in any case I can't imagine a ticket price that would keep me from going. Kansas City is my adopted hometown, and I visit there often, but the September date seems like a lifetime away. Hard to plan far ahead the way my life is unfolding right now, but if there's any way to see him, I'll find it...thanks for the heads-up, steinei! I owe you...

Yeah. Try your best coach. September is soon here.
Hope not but...
You are welcome
Coach, I hope you get to go!
Knopler is awesome all the way around...besides guitar talent, I love his voice.
I just got an email from his site and included in the purchase of every pair of tickets for his tour is a free copy of his new CD Tracker, releasing March 17. Can hardly wait!

I am much more enamored with his solo work, than Dire Straights. Have already purchased tickets for his show in Clearwater, Fl this fall. Anticipating Joe being here in December, his normal time to come to Fla. We have a great venue, Ruth Eckerd Hall just minutes from my house. How lucky am I.
You might give a listen to the album Knopfler made with Emmylou Harris, called "All the Roadrunning" (I forget the year)... very nice blend of music styles & genres.
