Topic: Best Marshall-style combo options?
My main amp is a Marshall JCM 2000, so it's a big, 100 watt deal. Sounds killer, and I love it to death, but its a pain to drag around everywhere. So, I'm looking to buy another amp, this time a combo, and preferably something with a lower wattage, with the intent being that I can just throw it in the back of my car if need be, and not have to make it blazingly loud in order for it to sound as good as I want it to. I love Joe's tone, and it's the kind of thing I'd be going for, although I'd likely end up putting OD pedal in front (bluenote, gs 124, timmy, etc.), so it doesn't have to have TOO much gain on tap, but definitely some. Bottom line, I want something that can be dark, thick, and warm. With all that in mind, does anybody have any suggestions? I while ago I played a Retro King 18 watt combo and loved it, but at around $1,600, it's just a tad more than I'd like to spend. Ideally, I'm looking to shell out no more than about a grand. Thanks!
