Topic: Derek St. Holmes

I don't know how they got him and his "other" band to come but I just got back from seeing Derek St. Holmes play in St.Meinrad, Indiana.  They have a rock festival there every August. This is a very small town in extreme Southern Indiana. For those that might not know Derek, he is the awesome voice behind Ted Nugent's biggest hits including Stranglehold, Hey Baby, Just What The Doctor Ordered, etc........  He is still the most underrated singer in rock. (I always thought Michael Schenker should have canned Gary Barden and kept Derek.  Get on you-tube and watch Derek sing "Gonna Make You Mine" with Schenker back in the 80's) Anyway, Derek can still burn it up on vocals and is a very good guitarist. He sang all the Nugent hits tonight in front of a small but appreciative crowd.  Five bucks to see one of Rock's great voices a few miles from home is awesome.  He can still hit all the notes with power and melody. He also did a song Joe covers, Blues Deluxe.  He was absolutely fantastic vocally.  And to think I almost didn't go..........

Re: Derek St. Holmes

Ya I always liked his vocals.I read  somewhere that good ol Ted pushed him out of the Band as an ego alpha dog sort of thing

Your rock candy baby
Your hard sweet and sticky

Re: Derek St. Holmes

Ted never had the same success after Derek left. Thank God egos tend to soften as we age and Derek and Ted are friends again. Derek plays with Ted again when Ted tours. Believe me, Derek can still sing and play. From what I have read, Derek lives in Nashville now and plays quite often around the city.  His bass player, who also tours with Ted is also a fine singer and bassist.  It was great to see them play in a small town setting.
