Re: Studio Version vs Live

I always prefer live recordings.

Re: Studio Version vs Live

Live, studio, its all good! I guess it depends on the day which I prefer, but as long as it's Joe, Hey! He is one of those awesome talents live! Some artists' just can't do it. On the Bluesville channel on Sirius they play some sides that Joe put down in their studio that are just amazing( I Don't Live Anywhere, If Heartaches Where Nickels, High Water Everywhere, Blues Deluxe, Etc) . He never stops impressing!

Re: Studio Version vs Live

I mostly prefer the live versions of Joes music, which is odd, because with other artists its the other way around. The first Joe tune I ever heard was Stop from RAH. Within a few seconds I knew I was listening to something special. Its still one of my favorite JB tunes.

Re: Studio Version vs Live

I used to listen to a lot of the studio versions a few years ago, but since Phil downloads and records so many of Joe's shows, I listen to mostly live stuff now. And with the Rock Candy I only listen to the live ones.
For anyone interested, here is a pretty cool version of "Reconsider Baby". Joe's voice is so incredibly emotional and strong in this one, just wish he had a larger solo wink

Awesome video Natasha! I've never seen this one before. Joe's voice is killer in this but I do agree I wish he had a longer solo! The other guys are great also..it's just such a great song and I love Joe's version of it!

Same here, mostly live over studio.

Funny you should mention Stop from RAH though, since I have the exact opposite perspective.  Stop was the first song that popped into my mind where I definitely like the studio/official music video version better (i.e., Joe's #1 view count video on youtube - 3.63M views & counting smile ...).

The solo at the end of the Stop studio version is just fantastic.  Joe has cut that solo short or cut it out almost completely in the live versions of Stop that I've heard.

I could write a thesis.......

Unless anyone begs, I won't...

I've listened to Joe from both ways now,
from live and not, and steal somehow,
It's Joe's profusions I recall
I really like Joe, that's ALL

Re: Studio Version vs Live

Wouldn't most people pick live over studio because there's more live versions of a song out there, especially with Joe allowing video to be recorded at concerts?  Sloe Gin from Israel in 09 and from the Vienna OH are pretty different but they're both live.

My favorite JB song is The River.  When I first started listening to Joe, I thought the version from The Paul Jones show from 10/2011 was the album version.  When I did hear the album version, it didn't hit me that it was 8 years between the two versions.

One studio cut I'll just have to settle for since I've never heard Joe play it live is Man of Many Words. I also listened to Asking Around and Mtn. Time so many times before listening to them live that I'm split on which versions I prefer. Potatoes, pototoes, it's all good in my book.

P.S. Just thought about it a little more and I'll take the studio version of So It's Like That any day!
