Topic: joe should headline glastonbury

just been looking at the various acts for this years Glastonbury and thought to myself, what a load of crap.only a small handful I'd watch.it got me thinking that joe would be a great headliner(better than what they have this year)if they did have him on I reckon they'd put him right down the bill and you'd be lucky to get 1 song shown on tv.the festival really is a right load of cobblers.masses of rubbish is shown on the various bbc channels every year.a waste of licence fee payers money.having joe on as headliner(or near the top)would make it worthwhile.how well known is Glastonbury in America?

Other than the town in Connecticut, I've never heard of Glastonbury.

its britains biggest festival.120,000 usually go to it(might be wrong on that amount)they always claim its the biggest in the world, though I have my doubts.its full of chart rubbish and loads of other types of stuff, most of which I hate.world music and that sort of stuff.

Re: joe should headline glastonbury

I'm somewhat familiar with the festival having watched highlights from past years on the music channel Palladia. Honestly, I don't think there is much chance for Joe to headline there, but he certainly could perform there since they do have artists from various genres.

are you serious? First post on here and a bit of bad language and slagging things off! - This year at Glasto: Robert Plant....Metallica.....Jack White.......The Black Keys......Kasabian......Elbow.....Kaiser Chiefs....The Blues Band.....Dr Feelgood....

http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/l … e-up-2014/

Over the years: Hawkwind, Traffic, Bowie, The Kinks, T-Rex, The Who, Van Morrison, The Black Crowes, Radiohead, REM, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen,

The lineup is anything BUT mainstream, - it does probably better than any other festival play every type of music. It gives a platform to many bands to step up their popularity. To just dismiss it as you have is not factually correct. It is a massive festival that sells out in minutes EVERY year without ANY of the acts being announced, - Micheal Eavis (organiser) has done more for live music than anybody else I can think of, - he is a man who will and has taken many risks over the years.

...and Joe has been shown on TV before, - quite a few times, - The London Calling festival a couple of years ago.

- And have a look at the demographics for Joe’s audience and those that go to Glastonbury, - whist as a festival it does still manage to attract all ages, it is largely a hippy young person festival, - have you been to see Joe live? Half the audience have prostate problems so need an interval to dash to the toilet! wink I really can’t see us lot coping with sharing portaloos in a field, can you?

Glastonbury is an interesting place, - thought by some to be the original Isle of Avalon, home to Merlin, - a lot of history and myth to the place:

Re: joe should headline glastonbury

Didn't realise Dr.feelgood are playing.seen them twice recently.there is the odd act here and there that's good, but the bulk of it is rubbish.as for seeing Joe live, only with bcc,but intend to rectify that on his next UK tour.

Re: joe should headline glastonbury

I have never heard of it but what do I know about what's going on in the UK?
A lot of those headliners don't sound too bad to me.
Outside of Joe what would suit your fancy Manticore? You say the acts are all rubbish.be interesting to put a large festival together and be in charge of lineup.(fantasy question)
And also welcome to the forum!

thanks.i would have(at the fantasy festival)joe, the who, wishbone ash, marillion, wilko Johnson(a good one for joe to do a guest appearance with)saxon, motorhead, the stranglers,dr.feelgood, nazareth, virgil & the accelerators, gordon giltrap(would like to see joe do an acoustic guitar duet with him)molly hatchet, ian Anderson/jethro tull, status quo,big country, fish.that'll do for now.as its a large festival, add whoever you want.plenty of room if its Glastonbury sized.

Re: joe should headline glastonbury

That's quite a list.Bet everyone would have a lot of different bands if they were in charge.

Yeah, Going to see him again quite soon @ The London Calling Festival.

Glastonbury Festival has grown exponentially and is i think the biggest of it's kind - I've not been myself, maybe if i wanted to do another 3 day event, but  Joe would fit in nicely there, imo!  The Festival has something for everyone.

Bruce Dickinson is quoted in today's Daily Telegraph newspaper saying that Iron Maiden won't play Glastonbury because it is too "middle class".

Not sure what Bruce means in that quote.  Maybe he should look at himself, before mentioning "class"
Just my knee jerk reaction!

Re: joe should headline glastonbury

BB King, Buddy Guy and Seasick Steve are the blues artists who've played the main stage, but none as headliners. It might benefit his exposure, but he would be well down the bill.

Think he is referring to the minimum ticket price of £210 and the "celebrity" audience it attracts.
Maiden are playing Sonisphere festival at the equally popular Knebworth Park in July.

..........and you can't get more middle class than The Daily Telegraph so it's ironic that he should be quoted in that newspaper.

£210 - would that be for the whole 3 days? - if so £70 a day isn't too bad imo, - of course you have to add any food & drink ect... on top!

interesting comment Jane, - and the reason that Glastonbury has become so (as some would call it) middle class, - is because they have put up very secure fencing and have very strict control on numbers, and a lot of those that do attend this type of festival now are “rich kids” in their teens who get dropped off in Mummy’s BMW 4x4. - 14 years ago a lot of people would get in without tickets and it was a chaotic free for all, - it is fairly sanitised now compared to back then.

I first saw Joe at a festival in 2009, - Guilfest, he played the ENTS stage whilst the Beach Boys with Brian Wilson played the main stage, - and for me it is that diverse musical choice that makes festivals what they are, that and the mud and rain!
