Looks like a Philly lawyer is bringing a copyright infringement suit against Led Zeppelin for the guitar intro to Stairway to Heaven.

Well I do think that sounds just like STH.

Actually Led Zeppelin opened for Spirit on an early American tour or so says the internet.

maybe STH was influenced, - so what? - I thought that copyright laws state that you only have to change a small percentage of the original to be free of paying royalties?

listened to it several times, it's just not close enough to Page's intro, 3 or 4 notes doth not make a song. I had friends in high school that could play it, not me, and it's not easy as I remember.

Yeah, I think I read about this LZ/Spirit connection in a Zeppelin biography 7-8 years ago. Not really anything new, imho, other than finding the "right" lawyer.
The descending riff at the 44 second mark is really common. There are probably 50 songs that use it... just not bigger $song$ than STH.
