Topic: The Pickup radio sho

I love the Pickup. Each show gives me a greater insight to blues, guitars, other artists, and of course Joe.

I've been trying to "buy now" a few of the showcased songs and the link doesn't work.  I've tried on my desktop and ipad.

I know I can go to itunes but I want to support the program.

Can any one help?

Have you looked in the downloads folder? It happens so quickly it's easy to miss and arrives compressed. Also check your junk folder. I've thought the same, then found it after a treasure hunt. I loved the latest one of Billy Gibbons greatest riffs.

Re: The Pickup radio sho

love all the shows.
Problem is that all the downloads don't always get you the correct show, and the earlier shows aren't downloadable still.

Can't figure out why they can't get the mp3 download right

While we're talking, I wish it was a subscribe-able podcast.  I just don't have time to sit on my computer to listen or manually manage the downloads.  I've listened to a few episodes, and it is cool.

This URL may be of interest:

h t t p://user.xmission.com/~cpclark/tpr.rss

(You'll probably need to remove the spaces embedded between the h, t, t, and p; I apparently don't have enough "forum points" to post actual links, so I inserted the spaces.)

That link can be entered as a podcast URL in iTunes.  Or if you have an iPhone/Pod/Pad with the Podcasts app, you can type that URL into the "Search My Podcasts" box.  From there you can subscribe.  Then you'll probably have to tap "Add Old Episodes" to select the episode(s) of interest.  At the moment, the podcast index has 22 episodes.

Minutiae for techies: The URL above is just metadata -- it does not contain or involve copies of thepickupradio.com's original audio content.  The rss file contains nothing more than a reformatted version of the index information already available on thepickupradio.com's "Past Shows" web page.  In that sense, the rss file is kind of like google: it's just a handy index of information available elsewhere.  When you play a podcast via a "subscription" to that link, your podcast player downloads the audio/mp3 file from the same server that your web browser would use if you were listening or downloading from a browser session.  A "podcast" is not magic -- it's just a different kind of web page (rss/xml instead of html).  If someone here knows how to contact thepickupradio.com's webmaster, maybe we can get them to add such a feed to their web page.

Re: The Pickup radio sho

I'm with ZeyerGTR on this one.

Thanks for the suggestion 2novchar, I will give it a try.  There are times at work when being able to listen to these would be great to help me get through the day.

Fantastic, thanks so much!  Now I can get caught up during my commute.

Re: The Pickup radio sho

How do I listen to this on an iOS device? I've downloaded the podcast app but can't find the show. Also, I'm new to podcasts and don't know how they work.

Guitars: 1974 LP Custom, 2013 R8
Amps: '88 JCM 800 w/ TV cab, Tone King Falcon
Effects: Fulltone Clyde, Monsterpiece Stud, EP Booster, Strymon El Capistan

I'm not sure what the podcast app is, but if you've downloaded them in iTunes, you have to tell your iOS device which podcasts to sync.  In iTunes, when you click on your ipod to manage it (change apps, etc) , there's a "podcast" tab.  You have to enable syncing podcasts, then select whichever ones you want.

On your iPhone/iTouch, under Music, there's "more" tab with a Podcasts option.
On a clickwheel iPod, under Music, there's a Podcast menu.

It takes a little extra effort so I made a step-by-step guide.  Does this help?:

h t t p://user.xmission.com/~cpclark/tprios/tpr.html

(I'm still disallowed from posting "real" URLs, so you'll need to remove the spaces between the h, t, t, and p.)

Re: The Pickup radio sho

Thanks guys! I'll give these a try when I get home today.

Re: The Pickup radio sho

Just listened to Joe's most recent podcast and must say it is one of my favorites. Joe talks about artists that have played at the Royal Albert hall  himself included.  It is such a revealing episode.  Thanks Joe for sharing you thoughts and info and so happy that  here you are 5 years later and doing so well.

I agree, Mary. This was by far my favorite episode.

Pick-up is like cat-nip for a addict.  Great fun and another way to satisfy the urge for more Joe.
