Topic: Question about Django/Just Got Paid

The version of these songs on Live From Nowhere In Particular are one of my favorites.  Does anyone have any inside knowledge of what venue this was from?  Just curious.  It is just an excellent piece.  Thanks in advance.    Miss Just Got Paid but I am sure Joe will play it again somewhere.

Re: Question about Django/Just Got Paid

Joe's talked around this question since the recording was released.  He's said that alot of venues charge big $$$ to have live at "XXXX" on a CD so he kept this venue's local to himself

Re: Question about Django/Just Got Paid

Thanks for this info.  I did not know that. Great Idea on Joes part.  More mystery, love it.  Thanks for the reply

Re: Question about Django/Just Got Paid

Jane that is a great interview.  Joe sounds so happy and great to know about this album.    It's an album I often overlook.  On our recent road trip to Lexington and Nashville we took it with us.  I had not listened to it in over a year and was just blown away by this version of Django and Just Got Paid.  I like knowing where Joe's head was at on a particular album.  Thanks again for your array of Joe's history

Re: Question about Django/Just Got Paid

I always took it to mean that it was recorded in different places,  thus the title.  This album remains a favorite of mine because it was the first Joe album I bought and introduced me to the wonderful world of all things Joe.

It was indeed recorded at different locations. The band recorded most of their tour and selected the best renditions of each song on the tour to make the cd. IMO, one of the best to introduce Joe to new fans. It doesn't cover his new style or much improved vocal talents and is more from the aggressive power trio days but still shows his genius.

The tour was recorded at the various venues.  The album tracks  were culled from one single US of A show, except for one song from Europe.

I think the magic show where it all came together was in Florida. I never thought A New Day Yesterday sounded like the bulk of the album. Glad it was included because it is a good version of the song. Not sure why it came from a European show. I always said that Kevin mixed that album so good that is what every live show should sound like, and they should hand it to the FOH guy and say "make every show sound like this"!!! I do know that one of the photos was taken at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa by Rhonda.

Thanks, read the entire article,  it does sound like the crowd noise was absent from some of the recording, which lead to my believe that it was more of a compilation than an entire, one venue recording. To this day if someone wants to get to know Joe I just hand em a copy of LFNWIP. ....

Yes, Jim, Florida (end of tour wink) and Germany for A New Day Yesterday, which I thought was because that song either wasn't on the sertlist that night or had a fluffed flaw.  I believe it may not have even been on many?/most?/any?! US of A setlists???!!! Definitely not at the Utica performance.

Re: Question about Django/Just Got Paid

Isn't one song from Spain? I remember Joe saying "Muchas gracias señoras y señores" or something similar after playing a song.

It's one of my favorite live albums aswell.

Wow! Didn't know that. Joe's response was like giving them the middle finger with the "nowhere in particular" (tho it was recorded at several locations)

I'm broke, motherf**ker!

Re: Question about Django/Just Got Paid

As I recall, the original plan was to record the show at Chicago's House of Blues in its entirety, but Joe and his team were concerned about the "all your eggs in one basket" thing and opted for recording multiple shows and using the best of the best...which evidently was an entire show in Florida.

Re: Question about Django/Just Got Paid

BTW, the House of a Blues Chicago was a great show and included a kid named LD Miller joining Joe and playing a few songs on the harmonica. Here's the review from that night:

That phrase - I think it was "Muchas gracias señors and señoritas" - had nothing to do with the location Joe was playing. I heard him use it a number of times at the end of the show that tour, even in Wisconsin tongue .

From that article. . .

" One show we had, the crowd mics didn't get recorded as well as we wanted, and there was a bit of inconsistency there, so we ended up having to take a crowd response from another show with the same song and kind of paste it on there so that it sounded consistent."

That has to be "walk in my shadow" . . . I've always thought that the crowd noise (especially the response part) sounded really odd.   Still a great performance of the song, and great album.

Re: Question about Django/Just Got Paid

See this is why I asked the question.  I know so much more now about this album.  Rocket, You have a lot to say which is great to me.   I was looking over my playlist and realize that two of my favorite songs are actually from LFNIP.  Asking Around for You and If Heartaches are Nickels, I just did not know it.  Sweet Hubby set it up and I never paid attention to which album it was.

I just can't believe I missed Django / Just Got Paid.  They are both two of my favorite live songs.  I think this is part of my obsession is that after listening to Joe for so long I still find these little nuggets of greatness.  Love this forum smile
