Topic: Sound Mix Guy is a Jerk

I was at the show in Peoria last night and the guy working the sounds mix was a complete jerk. He constantly walked in front of us all night long. Sitting up and down blocking my view. The first time he walked up toward the stage the security guy asked him for his ticket and he pushed the security guard. He also had a few words with the lady sitting next to him. She was visibly upset also. The show was good as usual but the night was ruined for many because of one jerk. I will never buy a ticket to see Joe again because of this. I would recommend he gets replaced on the tour to prevent you from loosing fans every night. Shred on Joe!!

Re: Sound Mix Guy is a Jerk

That doesn't sound like Joe's crew. Episodes like this are rare with a Joe tour. Everybody can have a bad day, either personally or professionally. Bad that it ruined other's day too. Someone may address it here, JB staff and Joe himself are on this forum - connected and are tuned in.

It's terrible when stuff like this happens at gigs, but I don't see it as a reason to never see the act again.

Re: Sound Mix Guy is a Jerk

I'm bothered by the constant flow of folks getting drinks during the show, but never threaten to not go again since I come for the music. Next time get a seat down front where you won't be disturbed by traffic.

Re: Sound Mix Guy is a Jerk

Thanks everyone for the comments. I am very glad it is not normal to see this behavior from an employee with Joes show. I am used to the beer drinkers blocking my view too but that is understood, not an employee. I was more concerned with his actions and how he treated the people around him. Hopefully he doesnt have more "bad days" because it gives Joe and the rest of the workes a bad name. Like they say, one bad apple.

Re: Sound Mix Guy is a Jerk

I can definitely understand your frustration over having your view blocked by a sound person, but speaking as a sound person, unfortunately we have to move around to be able to do our jobs. We can also get cranky from time to time because of the crazy hours we often have to work. While you are there to see the show and relax, it is good to keep in mind that the audio person, along with the rest of the tour staff has probably been at the venue doing hard manual labor since 5 or 6AM, after often having worked several 12-15 hour days in a row while only getting a few hours of sleep, likely on a bus. There is rarely a good excuse for a bad attitude, but I find it very unlikely that this particular sound engineer would have been that rude to someone, as he is literally one of the nicest and even tempered people I have ever worked with. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience at the show. Hopefully you have a better one next time. Cheers.

Joe and the crew at that gig will know for sure who was on the desk that night.
If it was one of Joe's, I'm certain that he will talk it over with the stage manager.

Re: Sound Mix Guy is a Jerk

We have several roaming sound people during the show.  They never sit... They always wear badges and never spend more than 15 to 30 seconds assessing the sound situation. I'm sorry you had a bad experience but its highly doubtful he works for us. I've been battling house goons more and more this tour just to walk in and out of the backstage.  That said.  I owe ya one.

Re: Sound Mix Guy is a Jerk

Any doubt that Joe's fans are his #1 priority?  I have owned my own business for almost 30 years and know that a bad apple is possible.  That being said, this sounds like it was not even one of Joe's employees.  I know from personal experience how frustrating it is when something out of your control some how makes you look bad.  Joe did exactly the right thing.  Get personally involved and make sure the consumer knows he/she is always #1.  Besides being the greatest guitarist of all time, he shows great potential as a business man...Joe, if you ever get tired of playing the guitar and I pray you don't, I may have an internship available for an up and coming corporate hot shot.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.
