Topic: On this day in APRIL Bonahistory

April BH list ... please see post #24 smile

Kicking off April in Rocket fashion....

Rocket's show review ... a day he will never forget: https://forum.jbonamassa.com/viewtopic. … 00#p145800

Luckily Libby once again captures this day in April 1st, 2010 Bonahistory for us all to enjoy ... and to once again be amazed ... at the talent that is ... Joe Bonamassa!!: http://youtu.be/K0vDlUxo8Gs

"I was in Space for less than 2 weeks … and suddenly Jeaniene’s back … half the Band is off the gd wagon … we have comedians opening for us … and the nice kid that ran our website is now a kleptof’nmaniac.  Boy ... did you guys miss me!!"  Phil Valentine - Road Manager - Staton House Band

JBLP#251 (unaged) ... thank you Ron.

Re: On this day in APRIL Bonahistory

All credit goes to Rocket ... and Libby!!

I was fooled as well for a minute or so ... until I saw Gibson was spelled "backwards" on the headstock ... I thought this is an April Fools ... or Joe scored another rare Les Paul (and ... he has one upped himself once again by going lefty!!)

I hope I hit your upcoming dates ... now I'm a little nervous! smile

Anytime - glad you liked.  I've always wanted to be one of your avatars (they're famous - lol).

Re: On this day in APRIL Bonahistory

Joe didn't throw a lot of picks out in those days - if I hadn't managed to get one of them at the Woonsocket show a couple of nights before I would have been all over this.

The pick I got at Woonsocket was a used one - quite rough on the edges.  The night of the Lebanon show I handed it to Joe to "autograph" (more like initial).  The lighting was horrible by the bus, but as soon as he held it he says "you got a used one."  The man knows his business.  This is the pick:  https://www.flickr.com/photos/24057301@N05/5751032823/

One of the reasons I have been enjoying this whole Bonahistory thing is all the memories it brings back.  I seriously hope that all the months get "stickied" or maybe even their own category.  Roadcase Boy has put an amazing amount of work into this and I would hate to see it get lost in all the new topics.  Would be a good place for new fans to get an idea of how long and how hard Joe has worked to get where he is today.

Re: On this day in APRIL Bonahistory

Sandy ... great, great autograph!  Joe really stayed inside the tight lines on that one!! (Can picture the concentration!) That is priceless ... and another great story you posted! (Nice touch having the pick sitting on a your '09 RAH ticket.)

Thank you for your kind compliment on BHistory, (and RickB's follow.)  It did start off as a "goof" ... a post marking the 1 year of Joe's Letterman appearance ... and joking we should fill up other daily dates as they roll by.  When gary posted "great idea" and Jane H. PM'd with some thoughts ... I figured "this won't be so hard." big_smile!!!

Other than work, or sleep, I don't think I've have spent more time on any other single one thing during this past year, but it's been fun.  (I laugh, imagining Tour Diaries collecting dust at J&R or Premier Artists Services that would have made this a whole lot easier and much more complete. ... but where's the fun in that?) smile

When charter Members like Rick B., David A. Rocket, Jane, and yourself started to post up some dates back in May, I thought I should keep it going.  And when Members, again like you, started to post links of photos or videos (most previously enjoyed, but hidden deep in other Threads), I WANTED to keep going.

It's been great seeing a date documented with personal stories, pics or videos.  Soon into BHistory, I began to hope it would be more than a tour diary.  With Members posting up, BH has come alive in some respect, and has become a little of a BonaFan History, which is great.  As a fan and Forum member ... you feel the excitement from another Member's experience.  I didn't know pattyluvsjoe appeard in the T de Force Bonus until I saw her on my TV holding up her pick to the camera! I was grinning ear to ear!!

It was natural for tour dates to be the backbone of Joe's history because He Is Always On The Road ...THANK YOU JOE!  Hopefully, even after all the months are posted, tidbits, big and small, will continue to appear to add and fill in.  Pre '06 has naturally been difficult.  Thankfully, active Members like John ( =o|-[ ) who were with Joe from day one have provided some early juicy date info.

Credit to you Sandy, and Rick, Cabby, jclark, Wooders, joebeacon, Libby, and nmagcorn (Natasha and Phil) for carrying a lens (or mic) and taking us all there, in the past .. and present.   (Also, credit the many non Forum members who post up great Joe videos for us all.)

We are fortunate Joe has continued to allow cameras ... and for allowing video uploads to YTube.  I do come from a time where I believe music should be purchased ... on a "physical" medium (yeah the the days of vinyl with a gatefold opening!!!). I truly appreciate Joe for continuing to allow his fans, new and old, to post up, and view videos and pictures.  Only my .02, but I don't believe for Joe they detract from sales of his music or dvd's.  I know for me personally, it has only enhanced my desire to add to the library through the years and see him on tour.  Music is with the ears, but with a guitar player like Joe ... it's a visual medium as well!! Those live videos and pictures suck us in. When I saw the first RCFP Baked potato videos appear, and then RCFP announced the Iridium shows, I had to make the trip!  So, that was a long winded thank you to Joe and J&R for allowing the vids / pics.  (And thank you for the live dvd / cd releases ... to have and to hold ... absolutely digging Live in Amsterdam!!! ... bring on the Tour De Force cd's.)

Thanks again everyone for their help with BH.  The other reason I have continued this is as a thank you to the music ... and this Forum!  There has been no artist I have listened to on a more consistent basis over that last 8 or so years than Joe.  Thankfully, his work ethic and prolific talent keeps us wanting to hear where he will go next.

This Forum has been an enjoyable escape for me over the past couple of years, first as a lurk'r, then post'r.  Even as the base has grown, the Forum has continued to be a pleasant part of the whole Joe experience ... (only takes a couple of active Sergeant at Arms ... to keep the lot of us inline. smile ).  I have learned a lot about Joe, guitars & equip, other great artists ... new AND old, ... and .... life in general.  (A big thanks to sandy, jane, wooders, Lizzee, and of course cindyron,  for great messages along the way.)

Sorry so long winded ... the orchestra is playing me off ... I know I forgot to thank someone smile

Joe, thank you for all the dates!! Really something to see ... and not even half of your past performance history is listed in BH here.  Setting talent aside for a sec ... the work ethic you have demonstrated through the years is a testament to you as a person. May many more happy years of BHistory lie ahead of you ... and us.

... now back to BH.... have no dates for today 4/6 that I could find ... but I know some are out there somewhere ...

Sounds so good not sure if it's a board audio feed or not and it doesn't matter anyway-FANTASTIC!  All time great.  cool Beautiful mic setup for Bogey alone!!!  Watch the unweighted overhead L/R mic stands bounce and sway when Bogie (love to see and hear him pound the **## outta the drums) is goin' to town! big_smile

Two years ago today. The best version of The Thrill is Gone Joe ever played IMO. This is the long version with Tal's refusal to let it die at the end and Joe and the band looking on as he does a drummer's version with sensitive touch. I have another clip of the song from the later RCFP gig at the Spud that has more views, but this has more soul. "Who says I play too many notes?"

Re: On this day in APRIL Bonahistory

Thanks for your post Jane! (and photos link -- will add link to the date.) Another great back in the day story!! Those types won't be repeated or duplicated!! Has'ta make you smile often I bet nowadays.

I was holding my breath ... A day after the 04/12/04 MD date went up .. and I didn't see a post from you ... I was worried because I only had one more MD date coming, on the 14th.  I figured I'd put the question to you in BHistory ... so in case these two dates weren't the ones you were anticipating ... I'd ahh ... we'll... I'd be in trouble .. because I came up dry (MD) wise after them.  (I felt comfortable with the Recher show ... think I saw a post where you mentioned you may have it on tape.)

After the first half of May ... just have Sept/Oct.  I HAVEN'T worked ahead!!! :fp ... In fact ... didn't even put today's together yet!! smile I wanted to let your post sit and bake a day anyway. (I know .... I keep telling myself to get those two months in my pocket soon!)

(All started with the Letterman date.  Now that Dave's retiring next year ... somehow have to do a BIG push for a spot for when the new album hits.)

Re: On this day in APRIL Bonahistory

In my haste to catch up 6 days ... I admit ... I didn't search the Forum for any show nuggets.  The Bonagods were smiling though ... Jane H. had a show in there ... and thus ... another great little post for BHistory. smile

Re: On this day in APRIL Bonahistory

Thank you Buzzy for the kind words.  Welcome to the Forum.

BH is nowhere near complete ... especially those early days ... which is much more difficult to locate and assemble.  Fortunately ... those of us in the later Class Years ... can learn a lot of the History from the active members of the Charter Years' Classes ... and the stories they recount.  That's the BonaHistory!

When I read your post ... I thought of the saying ... "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Probably not Joe ... but I bet many on here would love to repeat a little of the Joe history. smile

Re: On this day in APRIL Bonahistory

My 2nd Joe show and the one the lead me to the forum, Lexington Opera House, Lexington, Kentucky April 30, 2010. I remember it was really hot for April more like mid July. Our seats were 1st or 2nd row past the pit rows much closer than I had at my first show and I was so blown away. We had been fans for so long and just never could catch Joe live until 2009 in Louisville. I realize now that you have the timeline I realized back in November it was nearby when we were taking vacation in November. I just went to my 15th show over the weekend smile Found this thread in Cool Pics from David A. that I had not seen before and did not realize he was at the show cool

This thread started by Bill S is how I found the forum, it's a link from a review done by our local newspaper's music critic. I had posted there under my previous user name #1kyfan however a forum snafu somehow deleted all my posts and the original post is in my introduction smile
