Reading all these responses and realize I have to add Asking Around for You to my list. My younger daughter Jamie and I danced to that song at her wedding (her choice, not mine), so there are some very strong emotions attached to an already emotional song.

Re: Calling all wusses

Around the Bend - Joe was playing it in soundcheck last year for RAH II when we were in the balcony on our public tour - first time to hear it live and I sobbed all the way thru.  Lots of folks in my family who always seem to be traveling someplace and this song for me is what I hear when saying goodbye to someone.

Honorable mentions - Django from RAH is a total goosebumps moment everytime, playing Further on Up the Road at Crossroads made me cry (so proud of how far Joe had come in his career), When She Dances (my son and his wife's first dance at their wedding), and sometimes Asking Around for You.  Mountain Time live is almost always guaranteed to get me going.

It's funny but thinking back over my life there are very few songs by others that can make me feel so emotional.  That Joe has so many speaks volumes about his volume of work.

Re: Calling all wusses

Big wuss here!  Every time I have seen joe play live there has been a moment that I get a tear and the chills from the sheer joy of his artistry. Usually on Django or the big solo on midnight blue.  On DVD it is that moment he plays the first note of Django.

Two others for me are around the bend on tour de force royal Albert hall. Perfection!  Borderline version of blues deluxe just for the guitar solo makes me so happy I cry

That strikes to the heart of this topic and IMO, Joe's appeal to so many. Well said Sandy. For me, the only other music that can bring up such an emotional response are some Opera arias and Classical solo virtuosity.

Exactly, but I used the word "and" and after that I began a new line. That meant for me that Heartaches didn´t belong to RAH 1.

Hi Anna, well, if I learned to read I would have noticed that distinction.  Thanks!

Only one song, one specific version...and only on the DVD.
When Django begins and Joe first walks on stage at Royal Albert Hall, i always feel a strong mix of emotions. It's not really choking up, but it IS a lump in the throat moment. It's odd that there was no lump in the throat when I witnessed it live, only exhilaration.

The lump came unexpectedly the first time I watched the DVD.
I think it's knowing what a huge moment this was for Joe, the flood of memories from the trip itself, and knowing how fortunate I was to witness it live.

I am right with you on this one Bill.  I will never forget looking over into the wing of RAH and seeing Joe getting ready to come on stage. It was one of the most magical and proudest moments when he came out on the stage and looked around with the "WOW, This is really happening " look.  Best concert memories forever.... plj ~

And I'm right with you both Bill and Patti.  It was such a momentous day for Joe.  As soon as I saw him walk onto the stage I stood and applauded and yes there was a tear in my eyes and a lump in my throat.  I still feel proud everytime I see Joe, but that moment was very special indeed.

Re: Calling all wusses

I confess that Joe on recording does not move me as say Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam singing “Black” however as others have said Joe playing live can lead to a (potential) wuss moment, - first time I saw Joe live was at a festival, - my son and daughter (then 9 and 7) were up against the barrier right at the front and the look on their faces when Joe came out was amazing, - and brought a lump to the throat.

TBH Joe’s gigs in more recent times have ben a bit frustrating as the spin side of Joe’s success is that it brings with it a few idiots who cannot keep quiet for the likes of Sloe Gin.

Re: Calling all wusses

I don't need a song, I get all emotional just reading this thread! But seriously, like many of you, watching Django on the 2009 RAH video gives me goosebumps and just like Bill, I felt elated at the time but not emotional. I think it's quite common to not feel emotional at the time as one is so wrapped up in the moment.

Some touching stories on here, and it's great to see how many of you are in touch with your inner wuss.

I'm trying to think of a collective noun for you all - a Wail of Wusses? A Wallow of Wusses? Here in Germany a wuss is known as a Weichei (soft egg), so maybe it should be a Yolk of Wusses?

I.n.d.i.a.  No tears but Joe's RAH 1 makes it SO emotional.

Couldn't agree more, except about the tears part (see my avatar pic!). Mountain Time also, but that's hardly unique. I find it very difficult to listen to Driving Towards the Daylight without getting misty-eyed, too...

Sometimes it's the sheer artistry of his playing. It's as if he can make his guitar weep...sound familiar? Gets to me....and all the songs of loneliness....the River etc sound so heartfelt it gives me a lump in my throat.

Sometimes it's the wonderful stories I read here; things he's done for fans that he certainly didn't have to do and yet  those incidents were never made public so you know they were sincere.

He just touches my heart.
