Re: Who besides "Boomers"?

Boomer also born in 49....and I grew up with the blues, going to Greenwich village in the 60's to see Muddy, Buddy Guy, Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Because of some personal problems lost touch with music for a long time and Joe has brought me back and really enriched my life as corny as that sounds.

I"m back listening to my old blues stuff and now all of Joe's work. Thank you Joe. Your music is getting me through a very difficult time.

I've sent several emails with videos attached to some kids (late 20's) I work with and they've all loved him so hopefully.......

Re: Who besides "Boomers"?

The good news for Joe is "Boomers", generally have more disposable income than any other group.  We are at the top of our income potential and our kids are gone.  I do not consider myself wealthy, but, I spend money on things that are important to me without worrying about the cost.  If I want to purchase Joe's whole catalog of albums and all his DVD's, I will. (And I have)  If I want to purchase the best seats in the house both Friday and Saturday night to see Joe, I will. (Again, I have).  My theory is that, what was written and played in the late 60's, early 70's and what Joe is doing now will be played and studied long after we are gone.  I would compare the quality and depth of Joe's music, along with Hendrix, Clapton, etc. with that of Beethoven, Bach, Brahmas, et al.  Two hundred years from now when a young guitar virtuoso  comes along, he or she will be judged by how well they can preform the solo in the Guitar Master, Joe Bonamassa's, Sloe Gin.  People in the year 2225 will be saying, "How lucky were those people back in the 21st century, that actually saw him live? From Woodstock to Bonamassa, The generation that was called, Boomers, had front row seats to the best music ever produced in the history of the world."

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Re: Who besides "Boomers"?

I couldn't agree more Bob. We don't have children but can spend money on concerts and DVD's. And Joe will go down in history along with Clapton and SRV.

People who listens to Pop singles will not start to like Joe just cause he releases a single. There are people who like Joe's music and people who don't. a single or an album will not make the difference in my opinion.
And I think it's wrong to generalize that the only way to can get the 19-29 year old market to like Joe is with a single. I'm 19 and it makes me feel bad there's older folks who think that way about younger generations

Re: Who besides "Boomers"?

I do think there is a current trend of young bluesrock based bands.Mow within the niche of bluesrock ,Joe follows closer to the music style of the boomers, but he is not alone. There are many many bands that will or do appeal to boomers.
Henrick Freischlader
Ryan McGarvey
Gary Clark
Philip Sayce
Lance Lopez
Eric Gales
The whole Grooveyard Records site
Tedesci Trucks Band
Walter Trout
Indigenous
The list can go on and on
Now Joe is at my top of the heap but there are a lot of up and comers who will hopefully appeal to a younger crowd and keep the blues/rock alive like Eric Steckle for instance.
So even though us in the boomer generation fill  up the seats at Joes shows,I think there is still hope the music will continue on.I don't know if it is better in the UK or Europe as far as a younger crowd making a presence?

I'm not a boomer, I'm a Gen-X er and was attracted to Joe because of his guitar sound.  If an artists hooks me enough then I spend the time getting to know their work.  Admittedly, there's some stuff by Joe I haven't gotten used to listening to. It doesn't mean I hate it, it just doesn't resonate with me yet and may never but I'm a fan nonetheless and share his music with others when given the chance.

Re: Who besides "Boomers"?

My son has been listening to all of the cd's that I have recently bought of , Joe.

10 cd's in all.

He just loves , Joe....he is 23 years old and asked the other day, if his mother can't make the Nov. 20th show in Columbus....can he go.

Of course I told him he could, and wish I would have bought another ticket.

I may still find another ticket when they go on sale to the general public.

Anyway, my point is.....there are a lot of people many different ages that will love Joe's music......and I am spreading the word.  :-)

Re: Who besides "Boomers"?

I don't think anyone here was implying that having large percentages of boomers at Joe's shows is a good thing.
Bob made a great point before I could, but the current cost of shows precludes a lot of younger people from attending shows. Back in the days of $10 or $12 tickets, I would typically buy 8 or 10 tickets at a time, often bringing my daughters and their friends, neighbors, etc.
With prices hovering around $100, that is just not going to happen. Not a complaint on ticket costs, just an observation.
My daughters and many of their friends have become Joe fans, but they are at stages in their life where dropping $200 plus for a show is not in the cards. Perhaps they will be part of Joe's audience in 15 or 20 years...once their kids are grown and out on their own.

There certainly is more and more hope for younger age brackets to appreciate Joe, but I think the boomers are his biggest fans because of what bob said...we grew up with the greats of rock and loved it.  My 24 year old daughter has zero appreciation of any of that music.  She grew up with rap.........  So they don't make the connection between all those fabulous influences on Joe's music.

I couldn't wait for daughter to hear Just Got Paid live and it was a ho-hum reaction!  Oh my lord, how could this be?????  On the other hand, she loved Seagull and Mt. Time, and they are both on her rotation in her car.  I think I can make progress bit by bit!  She's joining me in May for her second exposure to Joe, this time from front row...just having your hair bounce up and down from every sound beat has to be cool for her!

I do not see the logic on this boomers thing being Joe biggest fans just because you saw Joe's influences acts on 1st row in their good days. That logic is so arrogant and ignorant about other generations. Not everybody who is young listened to rap or pop or whatever **## music is popular now. This is annoying me very much.

You are to be congratulated that you have better taste in music than most others in your age group (notice arrogance).  We will have to ask the other Boomers on this forum, but you have my vote to be an "Honorary Baby Boomer" then, besides being Joe's biggest fans, you can be arrogant and ignorant like the rest of us.  By the way, we are used to being called that and worse by our own kids.

I was introduced to Joe's music by my (at the time) 21 year old son.  He grew up listening to a lot of the music I listened to when I was younger and luckily (for me) he liked it and learned from it.  In defense of us "boomers" we may have seen a lot of the cool groups that were an influence on Joe but I for one never managed the front row for any show I went to (even back then it was hard to get those special seats) although I did manage to be between the front row and the stage at my very first concert - Rolling Stones in 1969.

I have introduced a lot of people to Joe's music - young, old and in-between.  As Bill mentioned I also bought large amounts of tickets back in the day to give to friends and in many cases those people became fans who would buy their own ticket for the next show.  The demographic at Joe's shows in the States and the UK (the only two places I have experienced) are certainly more towards the boomer crowd but I have slowly seen more and more of the younger crowd there these days.  Most, not all, "kids" are not exposed to much in the way of real music these days unless they are interested in playing or performing themselves.  Watched TV lately?  No real music there.

For Sandy's, 1969 was the start of the Mick Taylor days.  Few days after Brian was gone he's playing the scheduled concert which becomes unscheduled(?) tribute to Brian Jones? neutral  US of A tour followed, culminating in the great  pre-Altamont pinnacle of The Stones in my opinion, documented in time-stamp fashion on "Get Your Ya-Ya's Out! The Rolling Stones In Concert." ...and Sandy was a mere child... lol
