Topic: Tony from Yorkshire, England.

Hi all, my name is Tony Sutton I am from the greatest county in the UK, Yorkshire, in fact a small village called Rawcliffe Bridge. I may not be a typical new member as I am 62 years old and retired. After retiring I was looking for a new hobby and decided to try and fulfil a lifelong ambition and learn to play the guitar. (Making slow but sure progress, currently at intermediate level.).
I have been an Eric Clapton fan since the 60's and still see him whenever I can. Next is in June this year in Leeds. I was reading some stuff about Ec when I came across a reference to a new guitarist he admired called Joe Bonamassa. I did some research and found stuff on You Tube and the 2009 Albert Hall concert. WOW I was knocked out by him and have checked out anything I can since then. My sons bought me the 4 Tour de Force DVD's for Christmas and that is my JB experience so far. I now want to see him live as soon as possible.
So that's a bit about me, I am looking forward to reading the views and experiences of everyone on the Forum.

Hi Tony, and welcome along to the Forum; I don't know what the typical demographic is for members here, but I'm sure you'll fit in the "family" just nicely; take it from someone just 1 county north......

Hi welcome to the group

Re: Tony from Yorkshire, England.

Hi Tony,

Glad you found your way over to the Intro Forum. Sorry my reply on the General Forum wasn't what you'd hoped for but stick around, the UK is almost Joe's second home so he'll be back soon.

If you've got the Tour de Force DVDs you'll have seen many of the Forum members already even if you haven't met them yet. You can recognise them because they are always front and centre of the stage. big_smile

Although there are many here that are older than you there also a lot that are much younger and it really is like a big family here. The older members take a great interest in the young ones too, especially the players and there are many teenagers here who are trying to emulate Joe. We've even had some that have joined Joe onstage at some of the most prestigious of venues.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride.

Re: Tony from Yorkshire, England.

Hi Tony! Welcome to the forum! The best decision you can ever make is to see Joe live! I strongly recommend it smile

Re: Tony from Yorkshire, England.

Welcome,   I think you will find that Joe appeals to many in your age group ( almost mine, I am 55).    I have been lucky enough to see Joe 3 times and the audience ranges from 10 to 90.    Hope you get the chance to see him soon.   The DVD's are great but live is hard to describe.   There is just something about watching his hands on the wonderful old guitars, oh my.   What songs are your favorites so far?

Re: Tony from Yorkshire, England.

Welcome to Bonamassaville, Tony! I just turned 61 myself. I don't think Joe's appeal to folks in our age cohort is surprising, given his musical influences. When we were growing up, we loved all those same bands and guitarists, even though a lot of them were not wildly popular in America. I might have been the only person in my high school, for instance, who knew who Paul Kossoff was...  wink
