didn't see the race Rick, but I guess I could catch it on YT. It is difficult to see how they screwed up so badly given that the mods they run have to be so vigorously tested beforehand in simulated race conditions.
the 'Car of tomorrow' is the now the car of today and yet with the recent mods it seems incredible that they could be so out of kilter with it. OK track and atmospheric conditions play a role, but they race at these tracks year in year out so its individual characteristics are well known.
It does seem the rulemakers and governing bodies of the sport have lost the plot. NASCAR has always been 'adjusted' for commercial purposes which renders some aspects of it as fake.
F1 seems to be choosing to go the same route with even more fake elements to it. The billions that are being currently wasted just because Renault wanted turbo V6's is insane. I went along with DRS just so that cars could actually get past one another, in much the same way that NASCAR fans accepted TAG drafting between competing drivers. But it is all fake and against the ethos of 'sport'.
If it wasn't for the beer, burgers and 'good 'ol boys' nature of the events NASCAR would start seeing a tail off.
I've been watching the winter Olympics. There is more tension and drama in the curling than in an F1 race or a NASCAR 500 miler!
and that is coming from a long 'dyed in the wool' motorsports fan.....................
