Topic: NASCAR really messed up this time!

After viewing the carnage in the Sprint inaugural, it must be time to return to the drawing boards. The cars are totally unstable in the draft on the highbank ovals. Want your opponent to lose? Just put your nose near his quarter and watch him spin. Any thoughts?

Re: NASCAR really messed up this time!

I couldn't be bothered watching this last night.  NASCAR lost much interest for me a few years ago.  We tend to spend our money for the "local" guys (Whelan modifieds) - a lot more bang for the buck and they actually race more than the last ten laps.  The scoring system is getting crazier every year, and I really dislike Jimmy J.  They took a decent, fun to watch sport and ruined it.

Nascar lost me years ago.  It's not about racing/winning anymore.  It is corporate crap run by suits.  Get rid of them. Get rid of that boogidy boogidy boogidy crap.

And for GOD sake, GET RID OF DANICA.

If you look up to the heavens just before the start of every Joe Bonamasaa concert you can see Stevie, Jimi, Muddy, Gary and others leaning over God’s railing jockeying for the best view.
And if you listen, you can hear Stevie say  “ SHHhhhh,  The kids about to start playing.”

Re: NASCAR really messed up this time!

didn't see the race Rick, but I guess I could catch it on YT. It is difficult to see how they screwed up so badly given that the mods they run have to be so vigorously tested beforehand in simulated race conditions.

the 'Car of tomorrow' is the now the car of today and yet with the recent mods it seems incredible that they could be so out of kilter with it. OK track and atmospheric conditions play a role, but they race at these tracks year in year out so its individual characteristics are well known.

It does seem the rulemakers and governing bodies of the sport have lost the plot. NASCAR has always been 'adjusted' for commercial purposes which renders some aspects of it as fake.

F1 seems to be choosing to go the same route with even more fake elements to it. The billions that are being currently wasted just because Renault wanted turbo V6's is insane. I went along with DRS just so that cars could actually get past one another, in much the same way that NASCAR fans accepted TAG drafting between competing drivers. But it is all fake and against the ethos of 'sport'.

If it wasn't for the beer, burgers and 'good 'ol boys' nature of the events NASCAR would start seeing a tail off.

I've been watching the winter Olympics. There is more tension and drama in the curling than in an F1 race or a NASCAR 500 miler!

and that is coming from a long 'dyed in the wool' motorsports fan.....................

What I saw Mike was the 48 car on the outside in the middle of a two wide train doing near 190 with the cars formed up and evenly spaced. The car behind came up in the turn, dropped down and stuck the nose near the left quarter panel which caused the rear end to lose downforce and the car instantly get sideways. There was no touch or rub involved. Jimmy Johnson is as good a driver as there is and there was no warning when it happened. This was the 30 lap sprint special. About 30 cars started, 8 were still running at the end and several of those were banged up. I've watched a lot of Daytona and this was scary. The big race will be pretty bad if they don't fix the issue.
