Topic: joe with the allman brothers

my friend sent me this today did anyone one else see this .

This week's issue of Rolling Stone has an article by Patrick Doyle that lists these 5 people as possible new additions "IF the Allmans continue"
David Hidalgo
Jason Isbell
Joe Bonamassa
Robert Randolph
Luther Dickinson

I just don't see joe or any of these guys playing with the Allmans . in my opinion if anyone can fill warren or dereks shoes joe would be the only one on this list that can do it . it would be great to see joe on stage with these guys but I think its just a pipe dream ...

Re: joe with the allman brothers

Luther DIckinson together with Marc Ford and Jackie Greene (now all Crowes players) would sit well and add their own thing too for ABB. They all absolutely play for the songs first and foremost. The ABB seems to be finally done and done though...special events only.

Re: joe with the allman brothers

Gregg has said ABB is officially done after this year, so I think that's pretty much the final word.  They're my favorite band of all time, but it's as good a time as any.

Personally I don't see Joe being a great fit.  He certainly could do it if he wanted to, but I couldn't see him giving up his solo career very long to fill a role like that.  His style doesn't seem like a perfect fit, either.  I think some of the other folks - Marc Ford & Jackie Greene in particular - would be a better match.  All speculation since it's not happening...

That said, I'd love to see ABB & Joe on the same bill some night this year, and maybe some cross-band jamming.  That'd be heaven!

Re: joe with the allman brothers

It won't be Joe.
He has stated that he is enjoying doing his own thing at the moment, otherwise the 'hard rock adventure' that produced 3 cd's could have been a band that he could have done full time.

Personally I prefer Joe doing his own thing at the moment, we see him shine as him.

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

Re: joe with the allman brothers

I don't think there is anybody that can replace Warren and Derek in the ABB.  They are just so perfect. I don't think Joe's guitar playing really fits that Southern Rock Blues Jam sound.  I think the band calling it after they leave is smart.  I'm sure eventually there will be reunions with Warren and Derek.  Or maybe they can get Dickey Betts back in for a reunion if that bridge isn't permanently burnt.

It's over guys.

... and there probably won't be anyone stepping in those shoes.

So go see them if you can.

Re: joe with the allman brothers

FYI,
http://www.relix.com/articles/detail/gr … after_2014

Gregg Allman says that The Allman Brothers Band will stop touring at the end of 2014. When asked about The Allman Brothers Band’s future as part of an interview for the 40th anniversary issue of Relix, Allman says, “This is it—this is the end of it.” He goes on to say, “45 years is enough and I want to do something else, anyway. Everyone has their own real good respective bands.” However, he leaves the door open to possible reunions down the road. “Whose to say?,” All We may get together every five years and just do one play at a time,” he admits

Derek and Warren have done all they can in that band. Time to move on.
