Thanks for the comment Joe. Are there any other festivals you don't know you're playing? smile

I Love it!!! I think Joe will be just fine. Maybe  a set featuring Blue and Evil, Colour and Shape, John Henry, Young Man Blues, and JGP? Whatever and wherever with whoever Joe can bring it!!!

Re: Joe at Download Festival 2014

While re-reading the review that I wrote of Joe's invitation only show at the Gibson Studios in London in February 2010, I remembered that Joe has form in this regard. Here's an extract to make you chuckle. BAs is short for Bonaholics Anonymous as there were a few of us from the Forum there that night.

"Next up was a favourite from Joe’s shows in 2009 – Young Man Blues. My notes say “full on”, which nicely sums up this Who anthem complete with crashing guitar chords, windmill arms and Joe’s voice that just gets better and stronger every year. As the lengthy applause for this number died down a certain member of the afore-mentioned BAs yelled “Who’s Been hanging out with the Rockers?" which brought a lot of laughter from the audience and a broad smile to Joe’s face. Yes, he admitted, he’s being hanging out with Rockers and joked there would be a new Joe with long hair, scruffy clothes and no baths for a month. lol  "

Perhaps we'll see Joe's other persona at Download?

I don't know what happened to my review of this gig as it seems to have disappeared from the Forum. If I remember I may resurrect it and repost on the anniversary, which is in just a few days time.

Day tickets not on sale until April.

And it looks as though other bands I wouldn't mind seeing are not playing Saturday - Skid Row, Buckcherry, Pretty Reckless & Tesla.

Re: Joe at Download Festival 2014

The Download Festival has its own forum/message board. I decided to check it out, wondering what festival fans would think about Joe joining in the fun. They are totally amped to see him there. Quite a few know a good bit about him while others have just heard about him and definitely are psyched for Joe to be there.

I'm addicted.

Re: Joe at Download Festival 2014

On the Download Festival website message board there is a thread regarding Joe playing there.  One person's elated response to this:
"oh my jesus god christ WOW!!!! this has made my day, month and year! never seen this one coming and JB is someone ive wanted to see for years! Really really really excited about this."

LOL!!Love it!

I'm addicted.

Re: Joe at Download Festival 2014

I can see Jane working on getting there and in. Joe playing before a zillion headbangers is her dream come true. He could start out with some hard rock riffage, then ease into a 20 minute P&S face melter.

That makes sense.  To a large extent, music fans are music fans.  Especially these days with distribution being so wacky, people can easily have a lot of crossover tastes.  I used to play with the Norwegian band at Epcot and sure enough, every time, every time I'd see a couple of teenagers walking by wearing Cannibal Corpse t-shirts (look them up), they'd stop and check out the show.  It happened frequently.  If Cannibal Corpse fans can dig violin-and-accordion-driven Norwegian Folk music, I'm sure a lot of the festival-goers will dig Joe.

It's not that big a leap and I think it's a good fit.  It's not like Aerosmith or Fall Out Boy are heavy metal acts, either.  Joe has a lot of heavy tunes.

Re: Joe at Download Festival 2014

I've no doubt festival-goers will appreciate Joe's talent and thoroughly enjoy his show.

I was amused (and pleased)by the exuberant response of the fellow on the forum.

According to the Download forums, Joe is on the 2nd stage on the Saturday and clashes with Fall Out Boy (whoever they are).

One day tickets are only available if the weekend tickets don't sell out. Will probably know in April.

Edit: Official. Saturday - directly before Quo.

Speaking of risk..."One day tickets are only available if the weekend tickets don't sell out.". Sorry, but that is a sorry promotional tact in my opinion.  If I wanted to see ONLY one act on ONE day...forget it!  My opinion is it's seemingly seedy money grubbing and lame.  You can either afford the promotion or you value your shirt too much to risk... roll

Re: Joe at Download Festival 2014

I heard a whisper about this the other day. It makes perfect sence to me. The fans of all ages who go to Download like guitar based acts, Joe can give them that without changing a single thing in his normal set list (no special guests required either). I'm sure many fans of acts like Aerosmith will enjoy him play what he does. Joe's had coverage Classic Rock Magazine, Planet Rock etc for a long time it sounds like a good move.

Seeing some of the comments, I do wonder, would there be such concern for Joe's song choices if he played a blues festival? He's far removed from many blues acts too, but it doesn't stop many fans of that genre from enjoying his work. While existing fans may not see this as an event they would personally attend, it sounds like a great way of getting exposure to an audience that may as yet be unfamiliar with his work - so it certainly gets the thumbs up from me!

Re: Joe at Download Festival 2014

In Germany announced under Classic Rocknight - Joe Bonamassa- Julian Sas - The Brew and more ST. Tickets already on sale: € 59,50 and 68,00.

Re: Joe at Download Festival 2014

So, as it stands at the moment, we have one of the big European ticket agencies contacting people to say Joe is playing the Rocknacht festival in Germany on June 14 and offering tickets for sale, while the promoter of the Download festival has apparently confirmed that Joe is playing at the Download festival that day.

Hopefully somebody from Joe's organisation can confirm where Joe will actually be playing that day, so nobody buys tickets for a gig, only to be disappointed and find that Joe isn't there.

Even fools say something worthwhile now and again

Re: Joe at Download Festival 2014

I also think the Download Gig is a shrewd move - I for one would love to go.
