Re: Joe & Beth get a Grammy Nomination

BAH from me too. A bit annoyed with Cindy L gushing and saying how much she wanted Charlie to win. Then they perform and win. I think lumping ALL Blues into one award is a disaster. But, there's a chance for revenge. Join the Blues Foundation and vote for "Seesaw" to win. wink

Re: Joe & Beth get a Grammy Nomination

It sure appeared like a foregone conclusion.
I'm sure all the nominees were deserving of their nominations.
Obviously, it's disappointing to fans of Joe and Beth, but kudos for them being nominated!

Re: Joe & Beth get a Grammy Nomination

Big BAH!! And Cyndi Lauper is a complete idiot. Never have witnessed a more pathetic announcer. It was painful to watch her. There should definitely have been different blues categories. "Seesaw" never has struck me as a Blues record. It seems more soul and R&B. This lumping everything into one category is not a good way of doing things. Glad, though, that Beth & Joe got some recognition for their fantastic album. They will always be number one in my book!

Re: Joe & Beth get a Grammy Nomination

I think it really is recognition to be nominated. There were five albums in the category... only one can win. Obviously our personal favorite is Joe & Beth but I'm happy for their nomination and the extra exposure for both of them in any case.

Re: Joe & Beth get a Grammy Nomination

I have that album and it is more of a Ben Harper with Charlie tagging along. I would say that would of been the one tough to beat. And yes from the biggest label represented there although not sure how big Stax really is now days. The big surprise or in my mind the fix so to speak was Gary Clark best rock song. I like the song don't get me wrong but Sony label I'm sure didn't hurt his chances.

I could copy Bob Lefsetz blog post about how a Grammy is worthless today anyway unless you actually get a performance spot on the show which still draws an audience. It would of been nice for Beth to cap her extraordinary year.

Re: Joe & Beth get a Grammy Nomination

My Charlie Musslewhite story:  In 1971, I was working as a bouncer at a large night club across the street from Michigan State University.  Charlie played there one night.  The only thing I remember from that night was when Charlie showed up he started drinking Chevis Regal and milk, and drank one after another all night.  That was my first experience with a "Blues Man".

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Re: Joe & Beth get a Grammy Nomination

I am still very proud of Joe and Beth! Thank you for giving us real, honest to goodness music!
Too bad the world didn't get to hear you!

As I sit here and watch The Grammy's there is not much that I can relate to or want to relate to...it has now taken another really bizarre twist......all these people getting married on here with Madonna all in white & singing, with Queen Latifah being the minister...really weird vibe.....God help us!

In my world.......drumroll please.....and The Winner is SEESAW !!!!

I didn't see most of the grammys but i just saw the wedding thing you were talking about. Latifah had to be sworn in as a commissioner by the state of California to preside over the weddings. Minister not required. I kind of liked the whole wedding thing, it was a nice positive statement for diversity.

ha, yeah, I was thinking that the Joe & Beth dvd might be a strong contender for 2014, assuming there is a category for that.

anyway i didn't watch the televised stuff but I did watch alot of the pre-ceremony. I don't want to knock her excessively but I agree with nmagcorn regarding Cyndi as host. It was almost painful to watch really. It seemed as if maybe she hadn't had a chance to read any of it, strange there was no teleprompter or reading glasses for that matter? but also just not something that she was cut out for or in the right state of mind at the time.... just kind of strange and hard to overlook. Her skirt was cute though!

and this might sound stupid but I was so happy when they pronounced Bonamassa correctly (or how I say it lol). It would have been funny if Cyndi were announcing that part and said "Bona-WHO?????"

and here I must lay down my little piece of Bonamassa trivia. I never completely confirmed it but I am pretty sure about ten years ago Cyndi and Joe had the same voice coach. I forget how I came up with that, IIRC Joe had mentioned the name of who he was working with and I did some web searching and found her site which listed Cyndi as a client.

FYI, I watched a bit of the main awards program and, believe me, the TelePrompTer didn't help Cyndi at all. I'm not sure if it was a vision thing, dyslexia or that she just can't read, but the parts I saw, she was really struggling to fashion a cohesive sentence.
My guess is she won't be back.
Honestly, I felt bad for her.

Ditto...this is the way I feel too.

Short & sweet, just absorb this...Led Zeppelin NEVER won a Grammy!  (And I'm not including a long after the fact makeup  recognition award) wink

ALSO, I felt such a twinge of irony when they played the 'JOE BONAMASSA' Cadillac commercial during the Grammys!!! lol

From FB:  "I want to start by congratulating Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite Fan Page for winning yesterday at The GRAMMYs in the category of #bestbluesalbum. You guys are absolutely great!

And a big thank you to everybody who worked on and supported #SEESAW. Receiving a #Grammy nomination for this record is an honor all by itself, and winning it would've been icing on the cake!

Love, Beth"

My feelings, too. A win would have been cool, but I'm happy for Charlie Musselwhite!

I'm still much more annoyed that the Grammys choose to put the vast majority of their emphasis on popular forms of music and so much great music - Blues, Jazz, Classical, Gospel, etc. - is relegated to a pre-show and virtually ignored. Sad.

Re: Joe & Beth get a Grammy Nomination

Indeed, why don't the Grammy's just come clean and rename the "Song of the Year" category "Pop Song of the Year"? Obviously no-one else is going to get a look in.
