Re: ABB in its last year.

I really hate that but with Warren having a son now and Derek coming of age as a player its surprising they lasted this long.

Re: ABB in its last year.

Phil - you never know, they might just play the RAH this year…………….

Re: ABB in its last year.

Just because Derek and Warren are leaving, doesn't mean it's the end of ABB. Gregg has been doing shows with Devon, who could step in the Warren role and they would just need to find another slide player. He won't be Derek trucks, but there are tons of talented pro slide players out there who would love to jump into ABB.

Interesting article.

Warren is the best,  Hopefully ABB will exist in some other format

Not sure Devon is quite the guitar player Warren is although he would be a logical choice. I have not seen him live so he could surprise me.

Re: ABB in its last year.

Seems like they all have their solo careers for the most part.So if the overall health of the rest of the band (specially Gregg ) holds up I think they could keep it going.I am sure the key ingredient is Greggs vocals to keep the sound consistent.Despite Warren and Dereks talents,I would bet(no pun intended) that there would be great players who could do fine as replacements.

Re: ABB in its last year.

Is there a chance Gregg and 70 year old Dickey B would bury the hatchet? Never say never - Hell did freeze over for The Eagles, and David Lee Roth returned to Van Halen...

Re: ABB in its last year.

I thought about this too, but it doesn't seem likely. He alienated everybody in the band with his drug use, not just Gregg, and he's not a slide player per se. Devon seems like a good fit, another writer on board, but who for slide? My first thought was Sonny Landreth but not sure he would be a good fit.

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

Re: ABB in its last year.

My favorite band of all time.  I can't think of another group that's had so many key lineup changes, and remained just as strong.  Knew this day was coming, but still too bad.  It'd be interesting to see if they continue on, but honestly, they haven't done a studio album in a while and don't really play live that much.

Never saw the Derek/Warren incarnation live, but I did see them with Dickey & Warren a couple of times.  Glad I saw them when I had the chance.

I bet this year's Beacon tickets are going to be ridiculous!

Re: ABB in its last year.

I'd like to see the Allman Bros continue on in one form or another, but, I think this announcement maybe is to save face for Gregg, Butch, and Jamoie. I believe they're all ready, and have been ready to call it quits. Are they're musicians out there to fill those shoes? Yes I'm sure quite a few could fill in nicely. Devon would be the likely successor to carry the name on. However.... All good things come to an end eventually.

I saw a backstage interview with Gregg yesterday from Atlanta  and he said it is time to quit after 45 years. Good analysis Spider.

Re: ABB in its last year.

Two years ago Gregg made Low Country Blues, and I guess he will do one or another solo projects. I think it´s wise not to go on with ABB including new guitar players: it can´t get any better without Warren and Derek. Devon seems to enjoy very much the RSB project, and Dickey - I saw him last year- looks to me far away from his former capacities.

I saw Gregg last year too. Glad I did.

Re: ABB in its last year.

I have a cool theory I would like to see play out.  Devon is a good guitar player but he's no Warren Haynes or Derek Trucks.  But he wouldn't be the worst guitarist the ABB ever had.  He's really better than alot of you may think he is and I believe would surprise everybody.
Next I would like to skip Dickey Betts completely and move on to his son Duane Betts.  They play in Great Southern together and I really think those 2 together would be young blood that would rejuvenate the band.  Duane plays ALL the Duane Allman parts in the Dickey Betts songs and maybe even extend an offer to make the band a 3 guitar player band with Dickey Betts in there too.  I think either way there are lots of options for them.

HOWEVER I just read an article somewhere where Gregg said it makes sense to disband.  Gregg is focused on his solo work again, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes are busy doing their thing.  Really they only play or even see one another for a month of touring and the Beacon Run for the most part.  Gregg said every year the they start seeing less and less of one another.  So maybe this just may be it for the Allman Brothers Band.

Re: ABB in its last year.

I see no problem with this considering all I've read. Warren and Derek are amazing, and especially for Derek, I think it's really time for him to focus on his own thing. It's sad, but man think of what a run this band has had. Really impressive.
