Ha - hate reality tv !  Mind, if they did an "On the road with JB" show I could handle that - think there might be a few more volunteers for that as well though !!

Re: Joe comes clean.

lol FUNNY STU!! My brother is addicted to Starbucks...he says once you go Starbucks, you can't go back.  As in, switch back to milder tasting coffee.

So, do you have an opinion on Mr. McDreamy, buying up a coffee chain in your neck of the woods. How's the coffee? And did I understand it right, Starbucks tried to buy the chain and McDreamy won out?

Back to Joe, funny tweet. I used to drink alot of diet coke, then I lost my desire for it. Now, if I need a little fix and diet coke is the only thing closeby, I have to put a lemon or lime in it to cut the chemical taste. I guess that's why they offer different versions of diet coke now. wink

Re: Joe comes clean.

Quick, get him into rehab...

The sugar-free version of the energy drink Red Bull may increase the risk of blood clots, say Australian researchers.

We've all guzzled the drink at one stage or another – whether it be as a caffeine substitute in the morning or the lethal mix with vodka on a night out - however experts say the drink can cause the blood to thicken and raises the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Despite the drink's marketing strategy that promises to give its drinkers 'wings', an Australian study showed the real dangers of the energy drink.

The study tested the cardiovascular system of 30 young adults one hour before and one hour after consuming a 250ml can of sugar-free Red Bull.

Head researcher Scott Willoughby, from the Cardiovascular Research Centre in Adelaide, said the results were remarkable: 'One hour after they drank Red Bull, (their cardiovascular systems) were no longer normal. They were abnormal like we would expect in a patient with cardiovascular disease.'

Dr Willoughby said special attention was paid to the factors that led to blood clots and stickiness of the blood. 'If you get an increase in stickiness and a decreased ability of the blood vessels to stop its stickiness, that adds up to a bad situation,' he said.

'If you add in other risk factors for cardiovascular disease – stress or high blood pressure – this could be potentially deadly.'

Dr Willoughby explained that further studies of the effects of Red Bull would be carried out. The energy drink is already banned in countries including Norway and Denmark.

He added: 'The can currently comes with a warning of its own. But if you have any predisposition to cardiovascular disease, I'd think twice about drinking it.'

Yeah, he bought Tully's coffee, which was a decent brand but probably not on a par with Starbucks - but I've boycotted Starbucks ever since Howard Schultz, Starbuck's CEO sold my basketball team to OKC.

We picked up one of those Keurig machines a couple years ago and now I'm completely spoiled...and financially challenged thanks to the cost of k-cups to support my coffee habit. Be that as it may however, it makes the best cup of coffee I've ever had :-)

Re: Joe comes clean.

I figured it wasn't really ADD Joe, it was merely Red Bull and before that, Mountain Dew along with a few Glazed Donuts! wink

Re: Joe comes clean.

Hey Stu,
Your feelings toward Howard Schultz of Starbucks reminds me of that famous Godfather line...Its Business, Not Personal.  But, sometimes, the business is personal, like in your case. (More and more everyday, its apparent that sports is BIG business and lots of things are out of control...)

You do have expensive coffee habits...enjoy, it could be worse, you could be an insomniac shopaholic or have a serious shoe fetish, that's way more expensive. lol

Bringing it back to Joe...I think I read on the forum that Howard Schultz is a big Joe fan and mentions Joe in his book, so he definitely has some good qualities. wink

I don't know, there's probably more chemicals and crap in sugar-free "energy drinks" than most drugs.  Be careful there, Joe, we want you healthy!  ;-)

Aye.  My wife has done a ton of research into this, and we have had a ban on pop drinks etc. in this household for a while now.  Some of those additives and artificial sweeteners in those 'energy drinks' are quite scary.  The main core ingredients are fine, but they tend to spike it up with other stuff to make it palatable which isn't.

We've been buying natural guarana, chia seeds, quinoa etc. and sprinkling on our muesli in the morning to get the equivalent energy kick (which incidentally lasts longer than a canned drink kick)...

EDIT: Ha - I wrote this after only reading page one.  I see others have mentioned similar details on page 2.  FWIW I don't believe coffee is as bad as these 'energy' drinks, but I don't drink it at all.  I have perhaps one or two cups of tea per day (black, no sugar!) smile
