Topic: Big Thanks to Denbon and a Tale of some BonaMagic
Quite a while ago, Denbon generously offered to purchase some tickets for fans that were needy and couldn't afford tickets to a show. As it turned out there were no takers to his offer and it languished. I contacted him and offered to find them here and he agreed. I contacted them and he arranged through the office staff to prepay the tickets and have them in will call for me and the fans involved.
I showed up at the will call office here in San Diego's Valley View Arena early to pick up the tickets and then on to our preshow meet at a local restaurant where I was going to deliver the tickets to those fans. I had a pair I purchased in will call, a pair in my name as comp for JBXP credits never redeemed (that was just recently taken care of by Eric because that had not been covered by former staff) and the 4 Denbon arranged for supposedly waiting for me. I plunked down the ID, the lady went over and returned with two pair. Denbon's donations were not there and there was no record I could show that proved that had been the case. I explained the situation to the person and she began a search. Meanwhile Lenny Castro walked up to the window with his wife to pick up tickets for her and another pair for guests. He asked for his and they weren't there either. As we were waiting I introduced myself and my wife, he reciprocated, then I told him how much I appreciated his addition to the band and had a little chat. What a very nice man! Soon the ticket lady returned and confirmed he had no tickets either. He whipped out his phone, called Clay and explained the situation, then handed the phone to the ticket lady. She listened, then went and got Lenny's tickets and he departed. I stood there a bit wondering if I was going to plunk down the plastic to cover the 4 missing tickets because there was no way I was not going to get those fans in the show. Suddenly another ticket lady stepped up to the window and handed me 4 tickets and said, "enjoy the show". I asked if she had found the records and she said no, but it was obvious that I was associated in some way with the band since I'd been chatting with Lenny and they would sort it later.
Wow, I was flabbergasted because usually staff at big ticket office outlets are pretty confined by rules and such.
So, thank you very much to Denbon for his generosity and a bit of Bonamagic that allowed it to be completed.
Who was to blame for the total fumble of the arrangements is no matter now and what could have been a bad situation was converted to joy for some needy fans.
The show was outstanding!
