Topic: Joe used to smoke?

And I don't mean on the guitar. lol

I've been off the TGP forums for a while, but when I went back there recently, I noticed that there were more and more POSITIVE threads about Joe.  Quite a few in fact, with very very few trolls trying to spoil it anymore.

Anyhow, there was a nice thread there I read yesterday about a couple of member who got to meet Joe backstage this week.  There were some really cool follow up stories by other members, but one member posted a story about seeing Joe play a few years back and remarked that he wished Joe didn't smoke whilst playing!!

Now, I don't believe Joe had ever taken up the habit???

Here is the TGP thread: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showth … ?t=1359560

The comment was posted in page 4 or somewhere, but also take a look at some of the cool stories people tell about Joe later in the thread.  Had to laugh at the guy who told the story about talking with his phone to his mom when Joe walked past.  The guy quickly hangs up on his mom and calls out to Joe.  Joe asked him who he was talking to and when the guy told him, Joe said to "call her back - I am not that important!"... smile

Sorry, couldn't help myself. Carry on.

Re: Joe used to smoke?

I remember when I first bought the ANDY dvd I watched all the extras and such and there was a picture of Joe with a cigarette, took me by surprise actually! I know that dvd was a long time ago though!

lol "Hackin' Wheezy Yellowfingers," sounds like a lousy homemade competitor for Penderyn whiskey! tongue

Not sure of my memory's clarity or accuracy, but I believe Joe did enjoy them cigars a bit, but his throat did not share sentiments?  I could be wrong.  Pretty sure they were welcome as gifts for greetings and salutations at one time.

Re: Joe used to smoke?

IIRC I read somewhere that Joe used to really enjoy cigars and scotch but had to give them up because they did bad things to his vocal chords. Could have been around then he got the polyps in his throat.

Yes, Erin, also saw the cigarette on the ANDY Live DVD.  Too weird!

Re: Joe used to smoke?

Cigarettes on ANDY live.
Joe then smoked cigars for awhile. I brought a nice Ashton for joe at shank hall and he lit it up on the spot. The next show there he turned down my offer...said it was bad for his voice and he had to quit.

Don't know about the smoking but what a cool thing for those dudes to go backstage and hold those guitars. Color me jealous

Re: Joe used to smoke?

I think I remember seeing a clip of Joe at a Meet  Greet & he said that his throat Dr. said he had a choice: he could smoke & drink, or he could sing.  THANK GOD he made the BEST CHOICE !!!  :-)

wow.  What a difference.  He sure has cleaned up nicely !  ;-)

Re: Joe used to smoke?

Maybe that's why he sings so much cleaner! His first album his voice sounds rough but now it's like I'm listening to a completely different person! I quit smoking 4 years ago and haven't looked back cigarettes suck!
