I've finally begun watching these. Available time was an issue. I wanted to watch each one in their entirety (including reading the booklets). So I waited until all of the life distractions, Christmas shopping, and work for the year was done.
Borderline was very cool. The old school vibe and set list is something I never expected to see again. Those days are long past, right? Well, Joe still remembers. Considering all of the water under the bridge in the last decade, making it look and feel authentic is a great thing. Fun to see the Strat back in a limited role. Bottom line: jammy without being drawn out. Best treat: The River. One of Joe's best songs EVER.
SB Empire was a real treat. It felt like one of those nights were everything just came easy and clicked perfectly. The consistency and excellence of Joe and the band never ceases to amaze me. How do they do it? Seeing horns with the Gary Moore band back in the 1990's made me really appreciate what they can add to a modern blues show. More than other shows I have seen or watched Joe play, the variety of guitar sounds/tone really stood out to me. These were not instrument changes simply for tuning or appearance. They complimented the songs beautifully. I'm thrilled each time I see Joe give big time love to the Gary Rossington LP. Any modern LP that can so obviously win Joe's heart despite a stable of awesome antique wood at his disposal must be a special instrument indeed. Favorite song: far too many absolute gems to choose from.
That's as far as I've gotten so far. The Bonus Features are great too. I love how J&R/KS actually produces those segments rather than just throw some outtake footage and backstage wankery. We get to meet all of the people that make the magic happen. We get real and relevant stories. We see just how special this man and his team really is. It may sound stupid . . . but it makes me so PROUD to be a fan.
More to come.

Couldn't agree more about the bonus discs dknight. I'd like to run them all through a computer program so that I can watch them all at once without having to get up and change discs. Perhaps that'll be my "honey do" for the weekend! I find the little nuggets of info about how,why and when things are done to be fascinating.
