Hallo Bill,
As I said already on the old forum the night of the recording of the rockpalast DVD was one of the best musical nights of my entire life. I will tell again why because it was so good I think of that night eveytime I listen to Joe.
I saw on the Rockpalastsite that Joe was playing in Satzvey and that there was a recording for a TV show, it wasn't on the Joe website that time.
I ordered directly 2 tickets for me and my best friend Rudi, a cousin too who I know since I can remember , before 3 years of age my memory stops!!
We always go togethet to see our favourite band, we have the same taste: we saw many, many groups over the last 40 years. like Eagles, U2. Frank Zappa 8 times, the old Litlle Feat, ZZ Top, Santana, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Deep Purple, JJ Cale, Jeff Beck, Lou Reed, Joe Satriani, Thin Lizzy, Pat Travers etc.etc.
Most of those bands we saw before they got succes and were wellknown even in the States. Saw the Eagles, Talking heads. U2 perform in very little venues for 100 people, can you imagine!! Like Joe, on their first tour in Europa and that is mostly Holland. It sounds showoff but it's true.
We went to Satzvey and it was a wonderful day and venue. 30C and and an old castle. We had a few drinks and a Italian meal outside on the castle square. We drank a beer with Eric Czar and had a nice talk. When we were eating, Joe was practising for the show.
Imagine, close your eyes: - Gorgous weather, cold beer, very nice old castle, Italian meal, all Joe fans and Joe playing at the same time . I will never Forget!
He gave this wonderful show with the best soundquality I've ever hears, must be because of the Tv recording.
After Joe the French Band Jesus Volt played and that was a very positive surprise.
You can see me on the DVD in front of Joe. I'm standind behind the woman with the long blond hair, beside the post. I raise my arms a lof of times and have a watch with a black belt on my left wrist.
After the show we had some beers, talked with Joe in the bar and got drunk. We slept in the car( old hippies again like 35 years ago) had breakfast on the way home and went home to our wives and children, who have another musical taste.
A night to remember!!
A few weeks ago we went to a bluesfestival in Schoeppingen, also Germany and saw Joe, Johnny Winter and again Jesus Volt! Outstanding again. I sais to Johan another friend of Rudi and me that whereever Jesus Volt performs in Holland or Gremany we go if possible.
I read the paper last Wednesday ang guess; They perform next Saturday in Aalten 10 kilometers from here and so the musical circle is cosed again.
Is this coincedence??. Go to Satzvey to see Joe, see Jesus Volt, in Schoeppingen see both again and three weeks later Jesus Volt come in a little bluescafe just 10 kilometer from my hometown Winterswijk and they have never been in the neighbourhood, a French band.
You see music is wonderful and surprising, couldn't live without!
Andre Wittebroek.
Found this from 2006-09-14 old topics on page 111! My 12 year old son helped
me out!
Rocket, on my DVD-cover ; 2006 Provogue records BV , so must be 2006 for sure. I remember it took a long time before they decided to put it onto DVD.

You are right. I must have the broadcast so etched in my mind that 2005 will always seem like the release date. But now it seems to like it might have been released early 2006, Jan-Mar (not October!)???
Hi Andre & Rocket and others, lets try and sort out a few promlemos here ..
this simply was a reply to Joe that i heard him say somewhere it was his fave show (not mine ) but like i said in top 5 very easily and was agreeing with Joe that it INDEED was his best for him for numerous reasons as i typed in first post ...
Rockpalast is Legendary and yes Andre was indeed there and so lucky (and jealous too )

All The Bests
............ Michael
love the review Andre from 2005
Royal Albert Hall 2, March 30th 2013 London
Why ....
Let Me Explain
Just been watching The Tour De Force DVD's and i've never seen Joe enjoying himself and pushing so much, maybe it was due to a few things Joe finally giving it all for the last night of the 4 show run in London and the release of energy and passion he had finally achieved and done it.
The first RAH May 4th Joe was like a rabbit caught in the headlights and yes that venue is hugely intimidating and grand like no other, but he sang extremely well and performed outstanding that night, dont forget he had only a year earlier been playing medium sized theatres, then be thrust onto stage and the thought of playing with and sharing that stage too with his Idol Eric Clapton was the hugest jump, he conquered it supremely well and it is recorded for all to see the success of that memorable night.
This time RAH2 it seemed the old lady (The Royal Albert Hall) was saying "i remember you, you're that young whippersnapper from Utica in New York" let's see how much youve grown !
And Joe went on to to play one if not his most powerful sets i've ever seen, even more powerful than the Rock Night at Hammersmith 2 days earlier by far.
Every song had huge passion and under the spotlight at The Royal Albert Hall he commanded and let loose all he had left.It is an Incredible Live Joe Bonamassa Show, so so powerful with him at 200% going for everything
Athens to Athens is Wonderful, Around The Bend is Humbling, From The Valley is Stunning
Ballad of John Henry i feel is best ever, look at it the interplay with Arlan its so heavy,
Happier Times is just breathtaking it is so Beautiful compared to the 2009 version
Sloe Gin on the strat one of the best ever and finally Just Got Paid that night is Joe Bonamassa right to ther limit, i don't think you'll ever see him give it all like that again, maybe cos of last song of 4 the shows and release of energy or just the venue and enjoying himself so much and he felt at home at RAH this time more himself relaxed and the old lady said "whew Joe you got me rockin and a shakin'" everyone Joe, The Band, The Management, The Audience felt the Power with an unreal creshendo in Just Got Paid its super heavy and fast and turned the RAH into a Wild Rock Venue, it felt so right as the Finale. So as joe has stated, yes i agree with him , it's his best show for him cos he enjoyed it so so much and took a sit down (tho not long enough lol ) after ... i salute you
it is a unreal rock concert like i'm sure the old lady hasnt seen in some time
and all those guitars there too, unreal for Joeshe's probably said when the dust had settled and everyone had left that night,
"i kind of look forward to him returning he's rather quite good, one was very amused".............. Michael
I still as a fan preferred The Intimacy and Songs at The Borderline over RAH2 but only slightly very slightly.
just for the record looking at RAH2, and i was tired and wasted that night, it is in my top 5 Joe shows when i look at it on The DVD
What a description! Tremendous! Michael, I see you all over in those DVD's!! You and Rick and all of you who were there are the luckiest! Joe does look tired at the end of RAH and I got a little worried. I keep telling myself he is young and has so far to go and he knows what he can do and what he can't do. He did an awesome job on TDF. So happy for his success!!
Beautiful review!
