Topic: Joe .... Your ! Best Show Ever

Royal Albert Hall 2, March 30th 2013 London

Why ....

Let Me Explain

Just been watching The Tour De Force DVD's and i've never seen Joe enjoying himself and pushing so much, maybe it was due to a few things Joe finally giving it all for the last night of the 4 show run in London and the release of energy and passion he had finally achieved and done it.

The first RAH May 4th Joe was like a rabbit caught in the headlights and yes that venue is hugely intimidating and grand like no other, but he sang extremely well and performed outstanding that night, dont forget he had only a year earlier been playing medium sized theatres, then be thrust onto stage and the thought of playing with and sharing that stage too with his Idol Eric Clapton was the hugest jump, he conquered it supremely well and it is recorded for all to see the success of that memorable night.

This time RAH2  it seemed the old lady (The Royal Albert Hall) was saying "i remember you, you're that young whippersnapper from Utica in New York"  let's see how much youve grown !
And Joe went on to to play one if not his most powerful sets i've ever seen, even more powerful than the Rock Night at Hammersmith 2 days earlier by far.
Every song had huge passion and under the spotlight at The Royal Albert Hall he commanded and let loose all he had left.

It is an Incredible Live Joe Bonamassa Show, so so powerful with him at 200% going for everything
Athens to Athens is Wonderful, Around The Bend is Humbling, From The Valley is Stunning
Ballad of John Henry i feel is best ever, look at it the interplay with Arlan its so heavy,
Happier Times is just breathtaking it is so Beautiful compared to the 2009 version
Sloe Gin on the strat one of the best ever and finally Just Got Paid that night is Joe Bonamassa right to ther limit,   i don't think you'll ever see him give it all like that again, maybe cos of last song of 4 the shows and release of energy or just the venue and enjoying himself so much and he felt at home at RAH this time more himself relaxed and the old lady said "whew Joe you got me rockin and a shakin'" everyone Joe, The Band, The Management, The Audience felt the Power with an unreal creshendo in Just Got Paid  its super heavy and fast and turned the RAH into a Wild Rock Venue, it felt so right as the Finale.

So as joe has stated, yes i agree with him ,  it's his best show for him cos he enjoyed it so so much and took a sit down (tho not long enough  lol ) after ... i salute you
it is a unreal rock concert like i'm sure the old lady hasnt seen in some time
and all those guitars there too, unreal for Joe

she's probably said when the dust had settled and everyone had left that night,
"i kind of look forward to him returning he's rather quite good, one was very amused"   wink

.............. Michael

I still as a fan preferred The Intimacy and Songs at The Borderline over RAH2   but only slightly very slightly.
just for the record looking at RAH2, and i was tired and wasted that night, it is in my top 5 Joe shows when i look at it on The DVD

Re: Joe .... Your ! Best Show Ever

I'd have to wholeheartedly agree Michael. I missed the #1 RAH since I'd just climbed on this hurtling bandwagon and rued the fact that I'd missed the pinnacle of his career to that date. If I'd known in time we'd have been there as well, and we'll sure be first up for any other he has in the Regal Lady, warts and all with the dodgy acoustics. Each show of that frenetic week was unique and a full bore gas in its own right, but that monster eve in that stupendous hall was the icy icing on that ice cream cake of a week. As Joe semi-collapsed on the riser after the last note of the blistering finale, I had a moment of concern since I thought he had totally hit the wall and given every bit of energy he had. Now, after seeing the extras I realize it was his moment to savor what an incredible thing he'd achieved and something he'd planned. True, he had given his all, even more than that as he always does, but that moment must have been something very special to him. Vindication and payback for all those years on the road wondering if the next gig would pay enough to gas the rig for  the run to the next little club. I'm getting set for the third run through the Tour and each gives me little glimpses of more details that were fogged at the time by the immensity of what we were experiencing.

A side note: One of my UK pals just told me that AmazonUK has just raised the prices on the Tour releases by about 15% across the board. I'd say demand has exceeded supply. cool Surely a contender for release of the year.

How very well done Joe! I for one and surely your fans as a whole are proud as punch for you.

Rick and Michael, just had a good cry over the love I hear and feel in your reviews. How fortunate you both witnessed this tour de force in person. Agree the best show ever caught on film. Our young master Joe seems to be at a pinnacle in his career. I feel he is flawless. In awe of his talent and stamina. Thank you both for sharing

Re: Joe .... Your ! Best Show Ever

Anybody who's been to Joe's shows prior to....let's say 2007 has seen the REAL beast. The older shows were full of piss & vinegar with JB out to conquer the world one dive bar gig after another. I miss those $15 dollar gigs not for the bargain price, but for the raw energy Joe unleashed on a lot of new unsuspecting fans. Those were the days and as much as he backtracked at say The Borderline last March, it just ain't the same. Many of you know what I'm talkin' about, that wasn't Joe, Kenny, & Eric rockin' those songs like they did in that era. Time has matured and polished JB's shows, but when I need a fix of the old days I fire up my ANDY DVD complete with the trashy dancers and drift back to the really rockin' days!!!

J Dawg, I truly wish that I'd been around then! At least I have the DVD and CD's!

Re: Joe .... Your ! Best Show Ever

The Rockpalast show. I don't speak about the music: Joe's always brilliant but that night was so special: old castle, wonderful summernight, sitting and having dinner outside in the castle, getting drunk after the show, talking to Joe and Eric after the show, sleeping in the car.........great memories........

I hear you J Dawg, but I can honestly say...there were more than a few moments standing at the front of the Borderline stage when I was transported back to Shank Hall circa 2005. Had Joe broke out "Reconsider Baby", I believe I might have needed the DeLaurean to get back to 2013.

Reconsider baby is one of my favs!! Although I do love the ANDY DVD i'm so happy for him and how far he's come! I would love to see him with a three piece band though again!

Re: Joe .... Your ! Best Show Ever

Fortunately we all have our own individual 'best' shows. One can't comment on just seeing a dvd from the armchair although I love the Borderline gig and its amazing line up (Mr Rhodes is my bass hero), but instead I'll list a couple of mine below that I attended and sweated at back in the day...

Manchester Academy 3 (tiny yet infamous venue) in 2006..

and the slightly larger Holmfirth in 2007...

I grew up in a ten foot proximity to the stage....any further away and I might as well be home watching that dvd.... smile

Re: Joe .... Your ! Best Show Ever

I wrote a long message on this website after that show and how the night was. I can't find it ( not good with computers) but maybe one of you can find it so i can read it back Now curious about what I wrote.

And Rocket not just lucky........When I read Joe was doing a Rockpalastshow I just wanted to go and bought tickets through Rockpalastsite. I had ticket nr. 4!! Joe wasn't wellknown at that time but I went because I knew he was very special. . Sometimes you just have to go. During the recording  of the TVshow there was no sign of releasing a DVD so I recorded the show which was broadcasted on WDR 3 TV, plus interviews with Joe on video.
Later it turned out to be very special.

(Same with Ryan mcGarvey now.)

So go to liveshows you'll be surprised often!!

Hi Andre,

You've only started 66 topics and the earliest is dated February 2007. Maybe the post you were thinking of was on the old site? If you're not having any luck with the search function (I agree it's a bit hit and miss) take a look at your topics to see if you can find it or perhaps try your posts, which may take a long time to go through as there are 111 pages!

I hope you are well and look forward to seeing you at a gig again someday.

His post was definitely on the earlier forum.  Rockpalast was recorded latter part of June, 2005.  I am trying to recall the DVD release date (exactly) off the top of my head....unsure...October??? hmm Hmmm...a long lost German buddy also recorded off the television and I received a copy of that almost immediately.   Loved it.  Andre, Joe was very well known by You & ME at that time!!!!!!!!!!!! big_smile

Back on topic commenting, I don't think Michael was opening the door for a survey of what was everyone's opinion on Joe's best show ever, but only offering up to Joe his opinion.  Of course it is to be expected there would be others offering their take on best show.  Cannot agree with him yet.  Reason? Haven't watched the DVD yet!  Plus, I was not there, which could affect my opinion in a more realistic way (I feel a new topic stirring in my mind...).  The reason I have not watched it is I am stuck at the checkpoint at The Borderline.  I was going to watch the Tour De Force in sequential order, and am missing Shepherd's Bush.

Incidentally Phil, viewing my posts does not work for myself, not sure, but it may have to do with their BonaBAH worthiness... tongue
