Topic: Lots of seats remaining at Fayetteville

Curious, have any of you recently attended a Joe show that wasn't packed?  I'm going to the Fayetteville show on the 10th and from what I can tell from ticketmaster, there are lots of seats remaining for sale.  I would hate for the venue to not be generally full.  Maybe it's because it's in Fayetteville, which I thought was odd.  Why not Raleigh or Durham with its wonderful DPAC?

It's kind of a gut reaction: I would feel really bad for Joe if the theater is not mostly full (and totally sold out would be great for him, of course).  I suspect that a good crowd is great encouragement for Joe (or any performer).

I'm addicted.

Yes, but that´s seven or eight years ago.

It may be that they are booking larger capacity venues than before since many of the mid sized theaters have been total sell outs in the last year and there will be chances for more sales? I know that the San Diego show is booked in a huge arena that could seat more than 6K in just the end that has been planned out.

I think in recent times its kind of more like they look at  how many sold as com[pared to last time in that general region rather than percent of venue filled?
Like Joe was thrilled that there were 1700 or so at Roanoke. there was more like 3000 in Richmond but the venue was not full full, but he has been in Richmond a few times in the past 5 years or so. he was happy about Richmond too but he didn't mention how many more compared to night before. plus Richmond is just more populated
why they pick one specific venue over another in one town is hard to figure though. Joe has played Hippodrome a couple times in Baltimore. There are venues that have great acoustics of a similar size but less obstructed view seats. I did read somewhere though that I think the Hippodrome was part of the PBS arrangement so that makes sense. still a very nice place  though, just that I wonder why not the Lyric. of costs and logisitics are always factors

Routing of the tour dictates what nights are needed in which markets. Then availability of rooms dictates which room is booked. Some theaters are booked over a year out.

A while back I read that Joe's shows are booked 3 years in advance...not sure of the reliability of the source...

Sorry Rocket, since joining the Forum I've read SO much Joe stuff there's no chance of remembering where I saw that...   would have mentioned it if I could have recalled.  Have always wanted to ask Rachael if it was true.

No problem, Sally.  I already know that J&R have a very large lead time on bookings, just been wondering if something like a "feelers phase" (i.e., no contracts written or verbal) was  looking at a 3rd, or much longer extending year, or if at all.  I would say 2 seems to be pretty sure for a booking, at this point, but understand I am only guessing while also trying to recall if I read the same thing. hmm neutral wink  Remaining curious...

What is interesting about that is it not being 200 +/-...

Re: Lots of seats remaining at Fayetteville

I was concerned that when I looked at Ticketmaster in the days leading up to the show, there were still many, many seats available for purchase.  I didn't want the venue to only be half packed!  But I worried for naught.  I arrived early and saw many people walk up to the box office to buy tickets. Once the show got started, the theater was respectably full.  The areas under the balcony were mostly uninhabited, but all the rows ahead of the balcony overhang were full.  It was a good crowd, very enthusiastic.

I'm addicted.

The way I seem to understand is there is a method to the madness that loosely outlines the tours and routing well in advance. I would say absolutely two years out they know an approximate route. It wouldn't be a stretch to say three years out they are planning future shows. Nothing is that defined however. There are always cities that are played along the routes that are experimental two years ago he played San Antonio after a 10 year absence and played in a cut arena to about 1,500. The only venue available at the time. Looking at the 5,000 cap venue not very full but considering he hadn't played there for so long it was considered a success and earned San Antonio a return trip. This time more well planned to secure a more suitable venue.

Fayetteville was played shortly after the OKC play in 2012 and it sold well enough to play again. Fayetteville may be one of those towns that does not feel the need to buy months in advance like us here in Oklahoma City. We know that most shows do not sell out. There is always a rush to buy 2 weeks out. In this market I sell half the advanced prior to two weeks out and the other half within two weeks of the show. Walk up is never that good. Maybe 100 tops. There has been no advertising or promotion so far other than pre-sale email blasts the majority of the marketing and promotion happens about a month out with a final 2 week push. People are funny there are those of us that will buy tickets to a show 6 mos in advance because we schedule around Joe but most people want to know that they don't have to be somewhere else before purchasing. I know they need to get their priorities straight. wink
