email from Landmark Theatre in Richmond regarding photos

I have had experience with a few Joe shows where the venue had a clearly written or stated policy of no photos or video yet I was able to bring my camera in (not just sneak it in either) and take photos and/or video. And not just me, but others at those shows as well. I think many venues use it as their blanket policy, but if an artist is okay with photos they don't enforce it. However, I have also been to venues that had that policy and did strictly enforce it. I'm no lawyer, but I think it ultimately comes down to what the venue chooses to do. It certainly wouldn't hurt to check into it further or at least bring your camera to the show anyway.

I think Lee is right, it's just a blanket statement.  I've seen similar policies, but as long as I had the photo pass I've been ok.  I'm trying to remember where it was, maybe Pittsburgh, ushers were telling people they couldn't use there phones to video tape.  That's the only time I've seen the audience being told they couldn't record videos or take pictures.

Definitely print the policy and take it with you! Might not hurt to forward the email to Eric and ask someone at J & R to follow up with venue tomorrow? And maybe call the venue to ask specifically for this show. I think it is kind of a blanket statement on the venue's part. The biggest thing is that it gets communicated to everyone working his show.

I remember when we went to see Joe in Nashville in 2010 the venue website said no cameras & photography and I called them the morning of the show and I was told no at first and when I said he allows photography they transferred me to someone else and she said she had just been given the information and yes cameras would be allowed and if you had SLR you must have a pass.

Adversely when we went to see Steve Winwood at Louisville Palace a few weeks ago I was trying to find out if there was an opening act on the website and right on the Steve Winwood page on the Louisville Palace site it said "small personal cameras permitted" got to the door security looks in my purse and says no cameras! I said website says otherwise! He said I needed to talk to another guy and he looked just like the guy Joe & everyone had issue with on Tuesday and he says no way doesn't matter what we put on website and that I could "check" the camera. I had just put the camera in purse without the case and didn't want to check it without the case and told him it was their error for putting it on the website he could let me take it back to my car! Jimmy had my keys and was already sitting down he would not let me go get them from him I could only check the camera! I told him I would not he or someone else could take me to my seat to get my keys because again the Palace put the bad info on their site. I would not have even brought it in otherwise! He didn't want to do that and said he would let me take it in but if they saw me take any pictures I would be thrown out. I was afraid to even take a pic with my cell phone while everyone took pictures all around me no one said a word! During all this I said that I was coming to see Joe on the 5th and he allowed cameras was I going to have the same problem and he said it is up to the artist not the venue! I think Tuesday he was stopping people from recording and not pictures but obviously they have some communication issues at the Palace.

When we got seated in the Pit, they gave us a special wrist band and I asked specifically was it ok to use the camera. 
The Lady said yes.  She had on an ushers outfit.  Then when I decided to video my favorite all time Joe song, Around the bend, here comes the big bald security guy and he sits down beside me and says I told you no video.  he did not leave until I turned it off.  I am for sure going to print out the policy for my next Joe concert and take it with me.   Joe was peeved at Louisville security for sure.

Rocket, it did make me feel embarrassed.  Front row, so everyone including Joe could see.  I felt it was mostly just rude to Joe.
