Re: The NFL - National Football League

glad to hear that Rick, I'm pulling for him to do well but think a lot of folks want to see him go down in flames. You remember that Texas A & M linebacker, Nyguen I believe his name was that went on to play several seasons with Dallas? He was pretty small and just played his heart out, hoping Manti can follow that example.

One veteran player commented that Manti has that great first step that can't be taught and makes blockers miss. We'll see...

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Watched the first half of Chargers/Bears last night.  I know it's only preseason but Bears D looks very strong.  Or was it that the Bolts O-Line was just that bad.  Pass protection was just awful

Re: The NFL - National Football League

well, actually it looked pretty good to me at times. I thought DJ Fluker was going to start at left tackle?? He did a very good job overall at right tackle, but did miss that block in the first quarter and Bears got the sack. His footwork was not very good on that one. What abouts it Ricky B, any thoughts?
We didn't watch all of it, did Manti get in the game?

Bolts bench looks weak according to local fishwrap pundits. Other than that, new coach taking a look at the team. I never pay attention in preseason and don't even bother watching the games since they are basically meaningless unless a key player is injured.

Key player injured last night in the Browns 24-6 win over Detroit. Barkevious Mingo, the Browns top pick went out with a bruised lung, but will hopefully return in a week. Norv Turner is doin' what he does best as the O.C. turning QB's Brandon Weeden & Jason Campbell around and creating a neck n neck competition for the starting job. Regardless who ends up the starter there's a very competent back up waiting.

I am really getting sick of all the rule changes and stupid ideas in Football with Roger Goodell.

Can he please leave and become Commissioner of a sport that really suits him like Badminton?

Anybody notice the $21,000 fine laid on Bears rookie Jon Bostic for his (clean) hit on the Chargers wide receiver? Looked textbook to me....maybe we should just play two hand touch? What a joke!

Yes, seen that.  And most teams would love to have him and that "clean" hit.

I don't like to see players get injured but that is a part of the physical game they play.  And when you are running at a high speed like they are, and receivers are up in the air, you can't always control the point of impact.  Now because the Houston player had a "clean" hit against Miami, the NFL is going to study knee hits.  Where is it going to end?

You cannot always control momentum. Especially with these talented athletic players who have such speed and the receivers going up in the air.  You can't always hit on point a moving target.

Really you bring up a good point that it may just end up two hand touch.

I was glad to see the receiver git up after that hit. I totally understand the need to protect players against concussions, and I think the league has made a lot of progress in that direction, but it appears (to me) that the pendulum has swung too far the other way when hits like Bostic's are deemed illegal. There's also some hypocrisy in this particular incident: I understand that the league had a video (photo?) of this hit on their website the next day, with the word "Spectacular" underneath it. After the fine was levied, it disappeared.

Just wakin' up and haven't looked at any games or scores yet, George...I had Denver and thiught they'd have a field day, maybe Peyton Manning would throw about 4 TD's....but, wow!

Anyway, my picks are rhe same as yours except I'll take Atlanta, St. Louis, and Philadelphia as differences.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

I'm ready for some Football.

First play of next game, punt Reggie McKenzie's twin brother through the goal post and out of the Coliseum into the Bay.

I'm sure if we punt 1 member of the Raiders staff during each game, we can get a sell-out for the whole season.

Hey Rocket,

On your Philadelphia call...I had to pinch myself the first half, I felt like my cocktail may have spiked!!!

My son told me not to take it so personal, (its business not personal) but I am wondering what former quarterback Ron Jaworski says now after predicting the Redskins to win.

So Angela, do you like Chip Kelly's Philadelphia Ducks??? Jaws never knows what he's talkin' about, I think he's still suffering the ill effects he suffered in the Super Bowl when he was pounded by the greatness that is THE RAY DUHS!!! If you look at what sportstalk refers to as the "Big Four", Kaepernick, Wilson, Luck, & RG III, after last weeks games it's easy to see that RGIII is still on the comeback trail. that knee doesn't look very stable yet from what I saw last night.
