Topic: Broccoli Wings?

Lyrics to "Mountain Time."

Why can I not stop hearing "she pulls me into her broccoli wings?"  I can't be the only one.  I've been listening to this song for I don't know how many years now and that's still what I hear.

I could google for the real lyrics, but it makes me laugh.  Next time you listen to Mountain Time, have a smile.

[Edit]I just looked up the real lyrics, interesting.

Re: Broccoli Wings?

Is it "bright golden wings"? Now I'm picturing wings made of broccoli smile. The golden has become green

Zeyer, this is hysterical.

Yeah, finding correct lyrics is tough.  In listening to Joe's whole RAH, it was hard for me to understand most anything.  It's unbelievable how much of the wrong lyrics I was singing along with.  Instead of "Mississippi's where I think my best" I thought it was "Mississippi's where I make my bed", and something completely ridiculous instead of "In the battle of sinners and saints", can't recall right now, it was funny though...too many misinterpretations to mention.

Problems partly arise in Joe's singing style.  His practice of eliminating s's at the end of words (is that some official vocal technique?), his different pronunciations of "girl" ("geerul I know there"),  and "she won't waht too long", etc. etc.  Then he goes and completely changes a line from the original "Now I hate the city and I love the country" - - Jane had to beg him to reveal what the change was he has been using the last couple years that nobody could make out and she finally got him to write part of it on her shirt (see her avatar!), so it doesn't get any more official than that!

Then there's the suspected incorporation of a French phrase (coup d'amour????) in Slow Train.  It's just not fair!

There are lots of threads on here with people always asking what the lyrics are.  But we'll never again be able to listen to Mountain without thinking vegetables!!!

Because you have "Cauliflower Ears" wink

You have great ears and my ears perked up because you just discovered one of the lost treasures of Joe.  I actually subtitled this song " Pigs air grazing on broccoli wings".   Kind of a smash-up with Joe and Pink Floyd.

First and very much most importantly, please realize that most of the Joe lyrics on the web are not 'official' or correct. Even ones found on this very website. I can elaborate at length if desired.
Second, you are very much not alone, lol.
Many of us have heard that too.
also BTW the live Mountatin Time lyrics are different than he SILT studio version.

Re: Broccoli Wings?

And I thought I knew all the words.  The original version to which I am currently listening says Bright Golden Wings as well as the Version from Accoustic in Vienna.   I can't make out what he says on Beacon Live but that is my favorite version.

I promise I will now sing Broccoli Wings from now on.  Thank you for the belly laugh of the day.

Joe, just sing it how you feel it and we will do our best to sing along.

...maybe Joe was concerned about his glutathione levels at the time!? hmm

Re: Broccoli Wings?

Thanks for bringing this up...I had been trying for the longest time to figure out the words in that particular passage of Mountain Time... and did hear that as"broccoli wings" but threw it out as not making any sense to me.  Time to give a listen again

I'm  no outsider but a Dutch fan and this coversation is VERY funny to me. I heard bright golden wings all the time and a native speaker makes broccoli out of it???
There are a lot of Joe's lyrics that make me sing jabbertalk when I sing along, but not this line hahaha!
